Free Style scratch build sailplane

Hi There,
So Summers on its way and time to build another glider, this one is scratch built out my head ,improvising as I go, it is going to be used primarily on new slopes, and with the electric motor will also allow launching off a flat field.
I have designed it so the wings come apart as well as easy attachment of the wings and tailplane using a cutting edge technology"rubber bands"

A few weeks back I started cutting ribs and now 3 weeks later have a much better idea of the final outcome, guestimate around 2kgs and a huge wide wing 3.2 mtrs in length should make it a stable flyer and good camera platform.

Anyway a couple of pics of the build, also toying with a name for this beast .

cheers

Finishing

Hi There,
I have water papered down the primer and time to shoot the first base coat of white 2k, any pinholes that appear, will get a touch up of paint from a small brush.
The next step will be cutting the nose cowl off and making it match the spinner, once the motor is in place.
regards
Mike

If I may ask, what are the motor spec, pro and battery you are planning to use?

The motor is a E-MAX GT 2820 850KV 11/12 INCH PROP and the box claims 2300gr thrust if it can produce about 570watts which I read as a spec elsewhere then it should do the job nicely, if not I have a slightly bigger motor I can fit.

Some more progress

Hi There,
So some more work on the motor cowl, wingtips and hatch.
Once I get the motor , spinner and cowl to all line up nicely then I can start to plan some final paint finishing.
Looks like I need to move the motor up a few millimetres but that is no big deal.
I also fiited some ply surpports for the aileron servo's.
regards
Mike

Great work Mike. Now it's just the smaller details that tend to take up the most time.

Cheers

Finishing

Hi There,
Started with the covering and final coats of paint, still undecided about final scheme.
This morning I put the pieces together and added a 5oo gram weight to the nose, it balanced so the estimated all up weight will be a tad over 2kgs
and it will balance with the motor , esc, batteries and servos and probably not need any nose weight at all.
Some pics attached.

Looks fantastic Mike. And it certainly does look neat. Also glad to see that it will need little to no extra weight to balance it.
Keep up the brilliant work.

Cheers
