424 at the NATS

I'm very surprised that 424 has not been at the NATS yet. If it were there, then I might try to go.

I would be interested in going back to the NATS if 424 is raced. As it stands,
I do not race Q40, and with only having a snowballs chance of making it
into the finals in 426, the NATS represents quite an outlay of time/travel/$$
for not much racing in return. The folks that go into the finals get in quite
a bit of flying but if one does not make it into the finals, it appears that you
do not get to race a lot. Maybe I am wrong about that.

Well, Alabama Racer, if you was to run 424 and the EF-1 class you should get a lot of racing done. The Ef-1 class appears to be a low cost event too which is appealing to the 424 guys and the electric guys also.

I completely agree with Brad. But I probably shouldn't be talking cause I more than likely wont be able to go anyway.

If they were to run 424 at the Nats I feel it should be limited to those that have not entered in 426 or 422. Sport Quickie is suppose to be the 3-pole Pylon Racing entry class and I think it would enhance getting more folks to the Nats with them knowing that it wasn't wide open for the experts to slide down to 424 for the Nats. I realize there are those that would like to be in any kind of Pylon Race at the Nats from the moment they wake up until ready to crash into bed at the end of the day. That is just a newbies observation and assessment.

One point is that if it is run entry would be limited. For example one idea being discussed is that if you are entered in 422 you cannot participate in 424. However if you are entered into 426 you will still be allowed to compete in 424. This puts the event in alignment with progression. Some may be willing to try 426.

Just some additional information to chew on.

That is a good option DK. I talk to a lot of guys that just don't have the disposable income to compete in the higher classes which are more expensive. As one of my friends that use to run 422 put it "I can afford to build a 422 but, I can't afford to crash it and replace it" He has two kids in college and you know how that beats up the family budget. So for years now he has restricted himself to 424 as it is financially feasible. Also to come to the Nats for a week can really put a dent in the budget just for lodging and meals not counting travel and all the other ancillary fees that are associated with the trip. I know it isn't all about the money but, it is a significant factor. (I need to get those job applications in this week)

The NMPRA could make this really simple, if you have ever won a race in 426 or 428, you are not eligible to compete in 424 at the NATS. That would take out the top 10%. OR do it by time, if you have ever turned sub-1:XX:XX in 426 or 428........... Also, if you win 424 at the NATS, you are ineligible to compete in 424 at the NATS the following year(up or out policy).

....and make darn sure the winner of 424 gets a new Jett Engine with the trophy! .

Cheers Dave

Guys, if you are interested in 424 at the NATS. Please make your way over to the NMPRA forum and let me know your intentions.

Thanks,

DK
