Conversion question - TurnkeyRC

There is a nice looking Mosquito kit by TurnkeyRC, it is 55" wingspan (1/12 scale) and designed to fly with two 0.15 gas engines. There is no information on weight. Is there a general rule of thumb to figure out what type electric motors would be suitable for this kit? Has anyone already converted it?

Here is a link to the site:

There is also a nice looking Typhoon that I am also interested in for electric power. Same question on suitable electric power.

Has anyone coverted any of these kits?

There are several things to consider, Power loading, wing loading, and watts/lb RTF.

If the finished ship will weigh 3 pounds ( 48 ounces ), then, for good flight on a scale ship, (75 watts/lb) you need (3 x 75 = ) 225 watts out. Not sure the wing area on Turnkeys ship, you need to figure that one out on your own, but, my 44" Mossie flys well on two long can 400's and 8 cells. I suggest looking at P-Calc (www.flydma.com), and multiplying the watts X 2. I'm willing to bet that two Permax 450 Turbos, direct drive, or two geared 480 motors would be OK, but you need to build LIGHT.

Thanks for the help/suggestions.

Is your 44" Mossie from a kit? If so which one?

It's a plan, and will be featured in Model Airplane News as a construction feature in the near future. If you search for 'Rittinger Mossie" it will come up in several threads....Plans are $23.00, PP.
