Here's a few pics of my stand. I couldn't bring myself to painting it, so I did a quick stain and varnish job on it, warts and all. There's glue stains and a few areas where the ply was beginning to delaminate from wetsanding the boat. Sorta patched it up the best I could. I should probably build a nicer stand to display the boat with, but for now, this will do.

Still hope to christen her this Sunday. Hopefully it's not too hot and there's some wind.

Stand looks fine. Put some straps or ropes around the rods to make handles, so you can pick up the whole shebang together and not have to lay the beauty on the ground. It might help to cut some lightening holes, make the stand lighter. Now go sail it and post pics.

Had some time off work, so I got C-J #551 out for her first short sail yesterday. Pretty light wind, but a few puffs rolled through and she seemed to handle them fine. Not a drop of water inside!!!! Still could use some tuning, but she seemed to balance pretty well, and was able to keep pace with a Mongoose US One Meter in a straight line after she had her momentum up. Like Ed Crowell's C-J, I'm amazed at how nimble the boat is, considering it's a full keeled boat with an attached rudder. My compliments to Hans Berger at Berger Boats!!!!

We should have Canterbury's #529 and 551 out sailing together for the first time at Fairmount Park in Riverside, CA tomorrow. If you're in the area, come check them out....(then go home and order one!!!)

Had a great day sailing and tuning with Ed and C-J #529. Seemed like a bit more mast rake made 'ol #551 a bit better balanced. Not a drop of water inside, despite some fairly good gusts later in the day. Had a problem all day with the jib topping lift catching on the spreader tips. Ed's boat didn't have the problem at all. We think it's a combination of his smoother spreader ends and the fact that he has a bit larger gap between the leech of the jib and the mast. My R&D "team" is already hard at work with a solution!!!

Seeing these two together makes me want to build one. Just what I need is another boat. Boats both look great. Nice job!
