Build Log
Clausxpf, F-8 Crusader, Alpha-build

Yesterday clausxpf presented his new design/CAD of the F-8 Crusader and asked if anyone would do the alpha-build. I couldn't resist.... so here goes.

Claus printed the templates for me last Tuesday and on Wednesday I started to cut the parts. I'm making it from a laminate of a 8 mm shell xps-foam with glass on both sides. Lenght: 140 cm, wingspan: 90 cm, weight: still unknown. Powered by a WM400 MRK 2 using a Velocity B29-56 on 6s lipo.

Pics will tell the story better than words.

building and develloping the F-8

Jonas almost ripped the drawings out of my hand ..
but the speed he have cut with .. some development is still on the table.
To have the wing tilt for landing for one...
I had to cut a model myself to make sure i had enough space for that action.

The first half is now ready for sanding. I will glass it on the inside first. One half at a time. Then join the two half's and glass the outside.

rodger...
that is PU glue ( gorilla glue ) mixed with light spartle..
it is like the foam to sand then . normal it is mixed 1/3 glue to 2/3 light spartle.
it is the orange bottle and yellow can with blue top. the mix is by volume.

Looking great so far.

May I ask where you buy the XPS foam in Denmark?

Your spelling was close enough to spackle, that is why I asked. Many modelors use it to fill areas before finishing thier creations.

Spackle is a product made to fill holes in walls before painting. Is that what Polyfilla is used for?

Now knowing that I'll bet that one could mix up a batch of microballons, white water based glue, and Gorilla glue that would do just about the same thing. Anyway, thanks for the tip Claus!

GregG: You are right about the spackle. Didn't notice it myself because the danish word for spackle is "spartel". Mix this with the english word you get "spartle".
