new Freewing 70mm 12-blade PLASTIC fan

looks like the smaller 64mm version: lower pitch than your typical Change Sun type fans, and good value, too

http://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?r...roduct_id=5722

single rotor also available

http://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?r...roduct_id=5723

might be a lower load than the CS fans, have not tried it yet

EDIT: combos available

4s: 56A, 180g total weight, motor integrated in housing, this one is used in the 4s version of the Yak-130

http://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?r...roduct_id=5811

6s: 59A, 210g total weight, big heavy motor with standoff, NOT used in the 6s version of the Yak, I guess because of the weight and room aft of the fan unit needed for the long motor, all behind the shroud due to standoff

http://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?r...roduct_id=5812

EDIT: Just got my 4s PNP Freewing Yak-130 - sports exactly that combo (2850kV motor, 12-blade fan). Balancing wasn't great, so I took it apart - motor weighs 107g (112g with the 4mm connectors), kV measured: 2805, motor has 8 poles (magnets in the bell)m motor ran pretty quiet, so I did not bother to get a better balance.

I just ordered a couple, along with some other stuff. Really hoping the motor tube is 30mm I.D.

For my A10 EDF.

Had to bbq stick the wings. How I fly they break in mid air. The spar it came with broke easy on not even a high speed vertical.

no, I don't (usually buy motors and fans separately) - but why not post your question in the appropriate thread

back to topic: FREEWING 12-blade plastic fan

combos available at RC Castle, and it is not even claimed that they would be dynamically balanced

The 4s version comes with the 4s Freewing Yak, 56A at 4s claimed, that's a nice amp draw for lipos from 2700mA to 3300mA IMO

http://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?r...roduct_id=5811

the 6s version uses a bigger, heavier motor with a standoff, 59A at 6s, that is some power!

data on the 4s version

Just got my 4s PNP Freewing Yak-130 - sports exactly that combo (2850kV motor, 12-blade fan). Balancing wasn't great, so I took it apart - motor weighs 107g (112g with the 4mm connectors), kV measured: 2805Kv, motor has 8 poles (i.e., magnets in the bell). Motor bell of hte outrunner is pretty nicely balanced so I didn't bother to get a better balance.

I talked for a while with a rep at MotionRC and asked about the 12 blade fan. He said it makes a quiter whoosh sound but doesn't have as much thrust as the stock fan. also draws more amps he said.

which versions did he compare? probably the 6s versions, as there is no "official" 4s 6-blade in the new models as stock, only the low amp 6s version.

I guess the 4s 12-blade version is not bad for what it is, some 60A on 4s, of course that is not as powerful as the 6s 6-blader (>45A on 6s I think).
The motors of the two setups are about the same size. Since the 12-blader is a higher load, you cannot have the same power with the same efficiency - you would need a bigger, heavier, torquier motor. That is why the really powerful 6s 12-blade version has such a honking motor.
That being said, the 4s setup seems pretty good for what it is, but not as powerful as the 6s 6-blade setup, at the same weight.

In the 70mm Yak-130 thread you will find videos of "lordmureth" flying the 4s stock version with the 12-blade fan, e.g.

Freewaing Yak 130 versus tree and lamppost = WINS! (2 min 26 sec)

not enthusiastic about the fans...

balanced two Freewing 12-bladers:
- the unit with the 107g 2849 2850kV motor (my kV meter says 2805kV), with the 8-stator housing
- a 90g 2550kV motor (from the EPS T-50 Unique models), using only the 12-blade rotor, and the standard 4-stator Freewing shroud, even the adapter from the standard Freewing 6-blader, it fits

The front bearing of the Freewing 2849 motor is loose, but when I got some really good balancing, it did not seem an issue anymore. However the sound is no way near as wooshy as with the Change Sun fans (balanced a 12-blader and a 10-blader just now, too) in both the 8-stator and the 4-stator housings, especially in lower rpm when doing the balancing. It remains to be seen (I mean, heard) how the Freewing fans sound in the model, with good balancing, in the one Yak video I linked above you cannot tell what is vibrational noise and w
what is fan noise per se.

FWIW, I would not recommend them - I got the one with my Freewing Yak, and I just bought three rotors because they are so cheap and let me use both the Freewing shrouds I would otherwise throw away (since I do not like the sound of the Freewing 6-bladers).
Another reason is that I can use motors with a kV which is a bit too high (for my taste) for using with Change Sun fans (the Freewing fan is a bit of a lighter load, probably due to the low pitch a the blade tips, which might be more effective in the boundary layer, according to Stuart Maxwell (the air in the boundary layer is moving more slowly, so lower pitch is better - or bigger blade clearance, sic)
