Hobbymate HB800 V2.0 Flybarless 3-Axis Gyro

Looks like Hobbymate have released their MB clone gyro with v2.0 firmware. Currently it's on special at Target Hobby and is only $39.90.

It states that it supports satellite/sum signal, but we will have to wait for someone to report that it actually works, as they have stated this in the past, when it hasn't.

Update: Satellite support for this unit has now been proven. Note, you must use the correct adaptor cable.

Also remember that the pots on the HB800 v1 worked backwards. I'm not sure whether this one will be the same.

Attached is the HB800 v2 manual.

I'm intrigued that they have greyed out the 560us box in the HB800 v2 manual (note the different shade of grey). In the MB v2 manual it shows that it's supported:

Dave, I would of thought with the current technology that people have now days. They wouldn't struggle that much in reverse engineering. But yet it seems they still do. They get close, but no cigar. Not yet anyway. It's still good, but not the real deal. I'm just picturing these people doing it. Going at it, to crack the code

This unit has the v2 firmware, whereas the 3D-H is v1. There were a lot of improvements in v2, especially regarding the tail and sat/sum signal was introduced.

Shouldn't the FW be upgradable, say from V1 to V2?

No the firmware is not upgradable, because the boot code does not have the correct decryption routine to flash the MB firmware. It will most likely brick the gyro.

This gyro is better value than the 3D-H and using the v2 firmware and should perform better as well. Make sure you use the HobbyKing price war option, if you really want that one, to get the price lowered, even though the 3D-H is v1. I must say IMO the 3D-H does have a nicer looking label.

How can you tell what firmware it is other than the manual? Just wondering if there is a way to find tell for sure.

It might show up in the BX Microsettings & Updater tool, which was support from v2.0.0 onwards, but you would need the BX USB adaptor.

Thanks. I was just curious about that. So unless you have a BX then it's just a guess like HK's...or I guess someone can also try the satellite receivers too, but I think you still need another piece to connect those too? Well they work fine with what I have so far but it's good to have other options. What's the processor on HK's? They erased those for whatever reason which I thought was weird.
