Question
3D Decathlon?

I would like some opinions about my project Super Decathlon EP 3D. It is a balsa ARF like this :
http://rchandelen.no/produkt/rc-fly/...-51ins-sea-x7a

I have enlarged all control surfaces. Not measured anything, just enlarged control surfaces by "eye". Look at the pictures and give me your opinion. I know the Decathlon would not be 3D capable as an extra or edge, but I`m going for more like a park flyer version of the 3DHS Bigfoot.
Wingspan is 1300mm and AUW is 1200g (I know. Metric)
I have not maiden it yet!
Where should I move the COG? Forward or backwards?

3 first flights went well, but this is not a 3D plane. But it's very fun to fly! I will go on tinker with throws and cog, and see how far I can go..

Bigger prop. I think this will do the trick;-) But flying time is now probably down to 5 min. I hope the weather will be nice in the weekend.

Your son is a good filmographer Jacob. The decathlon appears to be a pain to get rolling harriers out of, but hovers and harriers well.
Do to the high wing. I think the Bigfoot employed flapperons to counter the high wing wobble during rolls. It is hard enough to get axial rolls with a mid wing plane, so a high wing will take a lot of finesse.

You're probably right, Tuck.. But my flying skills have to improve a lot too;-) I do not want to give up yet! Tried to move cog backwards, but the decathlon just responded with "ugly" flying. I need a lot more down elevator too. Inverted loops are hard at low speed.

I don't think a high winger will ever be a good 3D plane, but I think they look good! A 3D cub would be nice, but cubs have the same problem as all high wingers. I would like to build a symmetrical wing for the decathlon, if I had the skills. Cubs need a straight wing + big control surfaces and lots of power. Then you could do mild 3D with most planes.
Flying closer and slower to the ground will save you from tree climbing:-)
