what are thoughts on the Blade sr I am currently learning on a 120 sr and thinking about up grades would like a bit of a bigger heli so i can get outside more but am still a bit of a beginner.

The SR can be a bit of a pain due to the motorized tail. Better to go with a Blade 450.

is the 450 ment for beginners?

the blade SR is harder to fly than a 450. i strongly suggest against the SR.

There is a $200 difference between the sr&450 plus repair parts for the sr aren't to expensive

So, cheaper makes it easier to fly?

no blar14 thats not what i mean my point is im a beginner so do i through $450 at the 450 and pay more when i crash or do i keep it cheaper because im probably going to beat it up a few times and it will be easier on my bank account

The flaw in your logic is you will crash a lot more with an SR and have a crappy radio you won't be able to use for anything else.

Aside from that, a clone 450 doesn't cost any more than an SR.

If you have never flown a heli before get teh mcx2 coaxial heli. super easy to fly but gives you experiance in orientation. That is the hardest part of flying is knowing what to do when the heli gets out of whack or getting to know and understand the controls of a heli and knowing how the controls react with the heli

NO NO NO on the blade SR.....omg! this is the hardest heli to fly bar none, and I have a stack of helis (250-450's-500-600) I crashed this regularly and just benched it! i did give it a good go, i was told not to, but i bought it anyway, cos I too have a blade 120sr and a blade 400, so why not get the SR...tell you why cos its S$#@!.
Get a simulator (2-3 months practice)...then a proper collective pitch 400-450 etc.

Yeah, you need to understand that a lot of things about helicopters might seem backwards - such as the fact that beginners need the best equipment. With most things, like golf for example, you can buy crappy equipment and because you're a beginner, you won't know the difference, and what's missing wouldn't help you if you had it. With helicopters, it's the opposite - if you get crappy stuff, the differences will hurt you, and the bad behaviors of the machine will cause problems, and any money you saved will disappear really fast under hours of frustration and repair cost.

You see, money is not the object here - you're trying to learn a skill and have fun doing it. If you aren't learning the skill and you aren't having fun, that small amount of money you saved isn't going to offset that frustration. On the other hand, if you spend the extra money, you will forget about doing that within a couple weeks and it will cease to bother you, and you will be able to concentrate on the FUN you're having, instead of the problems you're having.

The blade SR was a h.h mistake. Rather then swallowing that pill they went ahead And put one in a fuse even . If you dont have a sim. Get one. will save you big money down the heli hobby road. Then my vote would go for an align 450 sport.

I have found when it comes to heli's, the bigger they are the easier they are to fly. Not twitch like the smaller heli's and can fly around easier than the smaller heli's. And yes I do know this for a fact...BUT the bigger they are the more they cost to repair when you crash. SO I guess it does depend on money unlike what jasmine says it is not about money. I will forever disagree with Jasmine on this one. Some people dont have the money and money IS the deciding factor on what they buy and what they can afford. The 450's though are a good choice between money to buy and money to spend on crash repair compared to how it flies and how much it will cost to repair. Crash a bergen 50, a caliber 90, even a raptor 90 and be prepared to spend serious dollars for repairs. crash a 450 and usually a hundred dollars plus or minus a few dollars and your up and flying again. The others I mintioned can be anywhere from a few hundred to 6 or 7 hundred dollars to repair.
