I'm mostly interested in quadcopters and have yet to make my first flight.

Here is a video of a flight that I made today at Smith Cove Park here in Seattle.

My original FPV maiden ended in a total wreck when I flew too close the the radar tower at Discovery park.

I rebuilt the quad on a new frame (mostly new), and today I strapped on the goggles and gave it a whirl.

I'm going to get started building a QAV 500 frame from fpvmanuals.com (getfpv).

I'll be using:
Naza FC
T-Motor MT2216-12 800KV
20A SimonK ESCs
4S / 9x props
Spektrum 2.4gHz

I've got a 1.3gHz Tx 300MW with LP filter and ducky antenna for video and a KX-6 camera. I'll start close and improve when I get comfortable going for more distance.

Just waiting to fund my goggles and GoPro.

That's my plan.

Very cool.
I had no idea that park was right there so close to the cruise ship terminals.

I wonder if the authorities would freak if I flew my octo a little closer to the ships to get some cool video?

Might have to drive over to that park to get some footage

I fly at Smith Cove all the time, even some 40" planks. It would be cool if you could get some up close footage of the ships.

Here is my second FPV outing:

Flailing around in the air over Smith Cove park in Seattle.

At the end, right after your hear the battery alarm start to beep, the FPV video completely cuts out. I have the failsafe on my radio RX set to throw the Naza flight controller into failsafe mode when it loses signal, so I made a split-second decision to just turn the radio off and let the autopilot land the ship.

The second set of beeps that you hear is the lost model alarm going off, which also happens when the radio goes into failsafe.

It auto-landed pretty well, but it did tip over and keep grinding away for a while, which burned out a speed controller. It was probably the wrong choice to force a failsafe. I should have just ripped the glasses off and landed it manually, since it was pretty much right in front of me anyway, but oh well. Not too bad a crash really!

As soon as I can trust my gear (and my piloting) a little better, I will stray from the field a bit more.

I really wish that I knew why my video feed went black. The video transmitter is a 12v unit running off the 3s flight pack, but it should be no problem down to 7 volts or so I would think. The 10.5 v of a "spent" lipo should be fine.

when I tested it at home (with the "dead" flight pack), the video was working fine.

Hi guys. Any of you using the Rabbit FC board? I am on the East Side and trying to learn to fly a quad and just picked up the Rabbit. Looking for local folks with more experience to pick up info from.

Is your Rabbit board using MultiWii? Which frame?

BTW - This thread is open to any questions/comments mutli-rotor related as well as FPV, auto-pilot and AP.

I still need to flash/install a replacement ESC before I can fly agian.

But if you're going to be flying, I might stop by.

Finally got my frame built and bought my GoPro.. No FPV yet but counting the days. I'm liking the Naza for video, very solid. Maybe I should turn the gains down a bit though. I need to get comfortable going higher LOS. I hope when I get all my FPV gear online it will be better.

Mercer Island has several good spots, they are all best during the week and early in the day, but sometimes are unused in the afternoon/evening too. The best is Homestead Field at SE 40th and 82nd SE. Second best is Island Crest Park (the ball fields), then the Mercer Playfields, and finally, the Lid Park.

I sometimes have to make a circuit of these parks later in the day to find one open, but they're not THAT far apart (in a suburb sense )
