Threw in the following fitout;
- HobbyKing 20A BlueSeries Brushless ESC
- 4x HXT900 servos
- Turnigy 2213 20turn 1050kv 19A Outrunner with 10x4.7 GWS slowfly prop
- 3s 1000mah 20c lipos


Now - this is my first foray into a kit build AND ideally I want to learn the basics of 3D. Nothing special just harrier/torque roll/4pt turns/waterfalls/big snaps that I'm not game to do on my other planes.

Is this going to be OK or have I thrown away my $$$$ quicker than a night on the turps?

You bought a what appears to be a hacker clone, so it comes from a proven pedigree!

With that motor I would suggest an APC1038 propeller, which will give you a good hover at around 50% throttle. I use this combo on a heavier plane with zero problems.

Get the CoG right and you will have lots of fun doing 3D and bumping the ground, do not sorry this is normal when learning 3D and why we buy bouncy foam! lol

No worries, you bought what looks to be a good model, cheap price made from easy to repair foam! Enjoy your new plane, post a review is you are able.

I expect to 'dirt nap' frequently that's why I wanted a cheap foam kit!

Oh GTrain, you might need to reverse the shaft in the Turnigy motor if you wish to use the wobbly prop adapter. Not too difficult to do if you have a vice and some blocks of wood, drill a hole through the wood larger than the prop shaft diameter. Undo all the grub screws then try to see how stiff the shaft is in the bell.

Support the bell on your block of wood, drift the shaft down through your drilled hole. Leave enough shaft on the end to attach a 3mm wheel collar, this will prevent the shaft from pulling the bell further out along the motor.

Loctite the collar on the shaft + grubscrew. Had 100 flights like this so far with zero problems.

The turnigy 2213 1050kv motor I use in many models, with a apc10x3.8 slow fly prop will give approx 1000grams thrust for 18amps. My epp 3D Extra hovers 50% throttle with good punch out using 1000mAh 25c lipo.

Again, read above for shaft reversal, so you can use the wobbly prop adapter. Remember to undo the small grub screws at the non-rotating end before drifting the shaft through, you will need a 3mm collet on the end of the shaft.

Ok then, oh well the other motor I have ordered should be good anyway, just a small amount heavier. And a couple of $ cheaper, and in stock lol.

One thing I noticed though, is hobbykings writeup on the motor, at top they say:

'Combined with a 10x6 E-prop this motor can push out over 1000g in thrust on a 3S1P configuration lipo.
Good for bigger foamies or parkflyers where about 150W is required.'

But then at bottom:

I just re-engined my brothers pitts special with the turnigy 2213/20 1050kv

apc9x6E prop is 16 amps 180watts for 830grams thrust when using 2200mAh 35c 11.1v lipo
We fly with a smaller lipo, I used the larger battery on my thrust stand to get the best real world figures I could.

Model weighs 690 grams ready to fly, it moves very nicely now

I just saw this on hobby king and impulse bought too. Looks like a good little plane for the price. Hopefully the quality is ok. Hows everyone getting on with this? Any maidens yet?

Hey Sam,

Yeah the plane is great - be prepared to fiddle around a bit to find CoG and best battery placement for your flying style.

I find it flies, loops, snaps, rolls, harrier, hovers fine. I can get the odd inverted flat spin. That's about the limit of my skill.

Knife edge eludes me - may be battery placement or a bit of coupling needed.

I've gone through a heap of props, get spares. The plane can take a hit though, I'm just learning basic 3d stuff and this little foamie does impress when it harriers in for a gentle landing.

Very close to what I have gone with, haven't put together yet though, I don't have the time ATM and batteries will e another week away.
Im not sure about the motor either, will definately fly well with it, but its probably overkill, and wasted weight. We'll see.

BTW, this model is very similar in construction to the little Reaktor which my mate has, it could be a good flyer but he needs to use a smaller battery I think and get the CG right back for some 3D action!
