What's the SMALLEST slope you've flown?

Some recent storm activity created a 3-4 foot dune at a nearby beach, and I was surprised it could keep my EPS wing aloft!

Mini Beach Sloping with Freebaze_NT (2 min 43 sec)

Please share your small slope flying videos. I won't steal SpeedsterDEN's thunder by putting his vids in my post, but his Thermic beach flight will probably take the cake.

If your aircraft isn't well known, post its details

Very cool. Looks like less than 10mph wind. What's the size and weight of your wing?

A month ago 4 of us were taking turns sloping an Alula Trek on nothing more than the rise of the beach at Cape Cod, MA in similar conditions. Very shallow rise, just a few feet at most. We were amazed we could keep it flying for extended flights. Here's a short cell phone video. This was one of the first tries. We got much smoother and longer flights with a little practice.

The berm at Port Myaca where the St. Lucie River lock's into the big lake O. I called the lock operator to ask for wind condition's and it was blowing 30+ off the lake side of the berm. Did a 20min. secession and have it on video. Weapon of choice Top Flite Wrist-O-Crat. and I still have it. On the land side all you need is 5-10mph. It's steeper.

Nice video Jim! If the Trek can be shown have this ability for any onshore breeze, it might be a good selling point for Dreamflight.

The wingspan is 48" (1.2 meters) and weighs .6lb (280 grams). But it's gained some weight after many repairs and collecting sand. My ultralight build would address a few things:
  • replace Turnigy MG90S servos with something lighter
  • replace Turnigy 9x old style bulky receiver with Frsky stuff
  • eliminate the spar and glue
  • eliminate the vinyl stripes
  • consider a lighter option than the Zippy 700mah packs
The model is an open design available here. There are several suggested airfoils and I went with the PW106 on this one. It's not very acrobatic but glides very well. I've also had good results with the "Ripoff" design on that site.

Not RC (but maybe could be converted) but pretty cool; just needs a sloping forehead:

Smallest "slope" ?

Side of an industrial building I used to work in. It was aprox. 350 feet long and 28 feet tall. That was a normal lunchtime routine when the wind was blowing.

I also sloped a row of 5 tractor-trailer rigs parked nose-to-tail on I-15 near Baker and a row of boxcars on a rail siding near Fresno. Both of those times happened while I was working out of a service truck and got stuck in complete freeway closures. I always kept a TX and a Wing Warrior Zipper in the truck 'cause I never knew when an opportunity to fly would pop up.

I often fly my 3m f3b corba on a small sand dune only 3m high which is very relaxing as can do very long runs and only need 10knots of wind to make it work well.

Great video Andrewwl
A couple of weeks ago I was doing similar on my local shingle beach with my Weasel - great fun - but the wind was well off to one side, and I'd forgotten the camera for video.

I sort of tried - original plan was to practice throwing but low tide meant slight thermal activity and I managed minor lift.

The second spot is on the beach and that is totally possible but I'm just too clumsy with the sticks - too much up elevator. I was afraid to end up in the water.

DreamFlight Alula Trek DLG Soaring at Amundön (2 min 48 sec)

That was my second day with the Alula and my DLG flights were 15-20 seconds but on the "mini slope" I got a minute at most - part of it due to wind which flatters my newbie DLG skills.

I've since then flown the Alula more and have some ideas of odd slope-things to try.

SpeedsterDEN is awesome on the sticks and I love his videos and there is also a vid of a guy sitting on a beach flying a f3k style glider.

Edit - here it is
Best soaring stunt you have ever seen (2 min 27 sec)

The cornfield soaring is just awesome. The Weasel video is good but while that hedge is small it seems to sit on a king size hill though.
