Build Log
Pt Fermin F-20 Jet

Vic (R.I.P.) has graciously lent me his Pt Fermin inspired F-20 Jet glider mould and has given me the go ahead to build two jets. One for himself and one for me.

He said he'd come over to my garage at a later date and cut some wing cores with his special templates.

Yay!

So this build log will serve as window for him to see where I am in the build and give me some guidance when needed as I progress.

I should be getting ready to go camping tomorrow but I couldn't wait to clean off the old PVA and some of the epoxy "splash" and get a coat of wax on her before I left.

Cheers!
TomS

Only Two

I've only been given permission to build two and that is all I will make.

Actually, as Ian is so deftly aluding , I will have to make an extra effort to get two done on step .

I'm on it I'm on it ...

It was great meeting you Tim. I love your Mig and you freindly positive attitude even more.

Hope to hang out and see you again soon

As the famous Point Fermin flyer and builder "Jerry Tucker" said to me, Its time to get rid of that Quick Silver and fly one of my F-20. Not many people got a chance to buy or fly his planes. He was very picky to whom he sold his planes too. Tom your their, I watched you fly and trust me your ready. We will build two, then I will show you how to do with them all the Fermin runs LMAO! and if you can accomplish this which I'm sure you will. I will give you all the Molds me and John Dragich Designed. With that said your going to love flying that short coupled F-20

Stop Ian LMAO, I can recall when you started Fermin from Bluff, you would crash more planes then anybody I saw flying. Now you can fly your ass off, so I know Tom will be just as good. When you fly Fermin, you pretty much have to fly with reckless abandonment to be able to do all the tricks. Looking forward to flying with you once I get new gear for my planes LMAO. My batteries are only good for 10 minutes

Bring it, the F-20 at one time was the most flown plane at Point Fermin. Excellent planes to fly at 80 once in good wind. Can't remember why I quit flying them, cause they are great to fly! well going to make these at 55 once so I can fly light lift. See you then Tim!

Good Times All, I Can't Wait Too ;)

Vic,

When I run the glass up the sides past the mould lip is the glass wetted out above the lip?

I'm thinking sticking up a little less than an inch all around like we talked about.

I guess you trim it back a bit later when you seam it?

Yes it is Tom, call me on my land line I can come over when you lay-up the first one, These molds are old school. Actually they get trimmed in the mold, tight to the edge when the glass is hard enough to trim. Most important not to let it get to hard, before trimming

Do not let the cloth get rock hard you will be hating life later, about 85% cure is good stuff enough so it doesn't stick to your hand and hard enough that it's easy to trim.

Thanks Ian, he is right don't let it get to hard and not to soft.................you will know when. Just make sure you trim before it sets off. I seldom use epoxy, resin was so much cheaper and I put carbon fibers to keep the fuse from ripping. I know most guys used epoxy, west systems was too expensive and I built lots of molds and planes which are still in great shape today! so with That said build on... looking forward to flying formation with you and pushing the envelope with these new F-20. Enclose a 262 I did showing how I trimmed the fused!
