Hobbyking UAV-3000

This is taking FPV / UAV to the next level.. who's getting one??

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

With a 3 metre wingspan, large payload capacity & composite construction, the UAV-3000 is arguably no longer a "model" per se, this is a serious FPV/UAV aircraft in every respect except price.

The first thing that strikes you about this drone is the sheer amount of payload space, with a huge front canopy and also a mid mounted access hatch, you have plenty of room to mount all of your equipment and flight batteries without having C of G issues. Despite it's size, the UAV-3000 still manages to be practical and features a 2pc plug in wing and V-Tail for easy transportation and field assembly, the fixed undercarriage is very sturdy and features a steerable nosewheel. Other features worthy of note are the adjustable motor mount and large air intake cooling duct for the motor and ESC.

There can be no doubt, the UAV-3000 turns heads, imposing on the ground, it is even more impressive in the air! For all the world looking like a military drone, the UAV-3000 manages to bring a whole new and affordable dimension to FPV and aerial photography and unsually for a GF model, it is relatively easy and fast to build. The high aspect wing, V-Tail and sleek profile offer efficient aerodynamics while the flaps offer excellent low speed handling, with such impressive specs and at such an impressive price, the UAV-3000 has just taken FPV to a whole new level!

Try to order from the US to Canada. I can see double the cost and a colonoscopy required.

I think the cheapest version of the two US versions is actually international. Just a matter of time for them to fix it.

I'm actually quite keen on this! Already trying to think of an elegant way to install a gimbal underneath that fuse...

Its too heavy!!!
Wing Loading: 108~112g/dm2

Not good for something that should be made to fly for a long time.

Hobby King is very flash at marketing and presentation, but from past experience I've learn't the quality of HK products can be completely unpredictable.

If some of the comments I have read (DIY Drones, for example, and elsewhere) are anything to go by, this model might look good but that may be about all that can be said of it - both in terms of its potential flight performance as well as its build quality. Quite a few questions raised about its landing gear (front) and the overall wing suitability(?). ..... think I'll be waiting for some forum first user reports before deciding.

Suspect it will be a fast flyer, should be able to cover some ground with that. I've ordered one. It's going to be a different bird than something like the X8 that's for sure, perhaps more suited to commercial ops. Will post picks when it arrives.

Sidenote .... there was 4 left in the Aus warehouse last night ... now there is no stock left. Think they started with 8 about 1 week ago.

Yes, agreed. So long as the wing strength is up to the task, this model should indeed be able to cover ground rather rapidly.

Anyone have ideas about what wing type has been adopted on this model (NACA or whatever)?

It doesn't seem to be any use for what it's for. It's got no camera mount, far too heavy and as said the wing loading. I want one but it needs an engine. Just need to get the thought of the reaper out of my mind.
