Hacking 808 #9 Firmware and/or removing timestamp?

I recently received an 808 #9 (which was unfortunately advertised as a #3 ). I opened it up and it matches the pictures of the #9 and also acts like other #9s. I have the variant with the default date of 2012-05-01 23:59:59

So far I've figured out how to set the default time by modifying the TAG.TXT file, and have also successfully used it as a webcam by pressing the power button after plugging it into the PC.

I was hoping to access the firmware to remove the time stamp or at least edit the font like is done with the #3. I tried the ISP_1528.exe program after installing the web cam drivers (even though it seems this 808 does not use those drivers), but when I run a version check, it says "AP version failed", and when I try to read the firmware it says "USB connection error". I'm assuming the ISP_1528 tool is not used with the camera.

Has anyone messed with the #9? Seems like the image is pretty low quality; from what I gather it's being scaled up? I'm glad I've already got a real 808 #16v2 on the way as well

You might try the #16 GUI to change the time stamp on the #9.

^ thanks, I will give it a shot, but i'm not hopeful since the #9 seems way different than the #16. I was able to change the time stamp to the correct time but that seems to be the extent of what you can do with it.

I have a #16 now as well.. this #9 is pretty much junk

I received this link to #9 firmware (bin file). I can't translate the txt file so I don't know how to use it. Let me know if you decode it. Good luck.

I've got one of these #9's and they are horrible.

I'm very computer savvy and am going to see if I can find out anything, will update results even if I manage to brick it.

! Do at your own risk - I don't know if the Firmware is correct/newer for your camera !

Flashing Firmware have to be the same procedure as setting the date/time:
- Copy the .bin file to the root directory of MicroSD
- Rename the file if needed (see bellow*)
- Switch the camera ON with this MicroSD in it

(I don't know how long the Flashing will take or how LED will blink)

* The problem is the filename - camera looks for exact name.
If you look inside this .bin file you will see (near the beginning) a string "GPCODE.ROM"

So try to Rename the file to:
GPCODE.ROM

! Also read all the text under:
Optional Manual Firmware Update Procedure
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...19&postcount=4

(written for #16 camera but have to be valid for most cameras)
