Jpower A7 Corsair out of the bone yard

Well, I took out my old JPower 70 mm A-7 from retirement, repainted it in low visibility colors and VA-192 Golden Dragon attack squadron markings. I added retracts, upgraded the powerplant to 6 cell, 70 mm 10 blade Change Sun and opened up tailpipe exhaust by 4 mm. The power is so massive it's like flying a completely different plane from the original 4 cell setup.

Intake might be a bit too large but other than that it looks very lifelike sitting there on the ramp -- good choice on color scheme. Let us know how she likes her retrofit.

That looks great.

I just upgraded my 4 cell ship to the Wemotec Mini EVO with HET 2W22, sounds sweet and flies great.

Did you add a cheater hole on the bottom?

Yes I added a cheater hole. I figured that with the retracts somewhat restricting that long narrow air duct, it may be a good idea, plus it improves the Woosh sound. Turns out there is really plenty of power with the 6S bat and 10 blade fan. I don't know if the cheater hole is really necessary.

I found the cheater hole on mine helped a bit. I should try blocking it with my new fan and see what changes.

Would love to get another one just in case but haven't seen a NIB kit for sale in years.

Let me know the results w/o the cheater hole if you try it. Ya, these kits are long gone as many other great edf jets.

Wow! That's phenomenal! I have one in the box and planned to do a low-viz scheme as well. Didn't think the retracts where possible. Thanks for sharing and opening my eyes to that. Do you have any "during construction" photos you can post?

I don't have construction photos but I can certainly guide you through the retract installation, paint scheme and markings. For the markings, I did not break my head and printed them on plain paper using Powerpoint and stuck them on with double stick window tape and brushed them over with flat polycrylic varnish to make them waterproof. I could PM you the Powerpoint file, you will have an unlimited number of markings. One problem with the kit which has just caused me a big setback is that the 4 screw brackets in the fuselage that hold the wing are poorly glued and ended up rotating loosely which prevented the wing from being removed. Be sure to glue them well! I ended up causing damage to the wing by removing the screws. I am now redesigning the wing hold down system with one screw in the back and 2 dowels in front so this doesn't happen again.

Some pictures below of the real VA-192 A-7 and plastic model
