CG Location with Landing Gear

Guys,

Does the LG make a relevant difference in the battery location?

I don't know how differently the Yak will fly from my Edge, but it sure has a distinctive look being so angular.
I think you will find that it is a lot different than the Edge.

Yes, with the gear on the CG range for the battery should be from nearly centered over the spar to slightly forward of the top spar.

Without the gear it will be forward from that and I am in the process of building another production prototype without gear to verify but on the prototype it was closer to the Ail servo.

The battery location will change based on prop and setup.

Yes, I recommend centering all the servos and installing the servo arms prior to installing them. I always do it after so I do not have to fiddle with my transmitter while I still have sticky fingers and glue all over the bench. I'm building these things fast to get the build threads up before everyone gets theirs. If I had more time I would do it your way.

I haven't weighed the production model but it is 6.XX oz depending..
FYI - You can get a $6 servo & motor tester which allows you to test and center servos either in or out of the plane without a transmitter. It will test motors and esc's as well.

Glue in eyelet on control rod support

Got a little glue in one of the eyelets of the control rod supports. Any idea how on how to loosen up Welders? Does Debonder work?

Started building mine last night, it goes together really easily. I really love the indexing cutouts that both keep everything aligned and don't let you put anything together backwards. Very nice touch!

I'm running a slightly different set-up because it's what I have:

Hacker A10-13L w/ 8043
ZTW 12 A ESC
Hitec HS-65 on ailerons
Hitec 5045 on elevator and rudder
3S 350 mah and 450 mah Sky LiPo and Gens Ace packs

On this size plane I won't be using 3S any more, and here's why: it's difficult to find the right size 3S packs. To get the same weight as the recommended 2S packs, you need about 3S 300-350. These are more expensive than 2S 450 (there are lots of those on the market) and about the only high-C ones available are Thunder Power and they are very expensive.

My next RCF/Twisted plane will get the recommended power system for sure. The Twisted 2204-1800 is a very impressive little motor!

Wow, that's some late building, and even later support!

It will be a rocket on the Hacker and 3s, while waiting for the crack yak to come out I swapped the 2204-1800 and 2s for the hacker a10-13l 3s on my 3DHS 34 Edge and it did not have the same power as the Hacker, but the CY is going to be alot lighter than my 3dhs 34" edge

I just finished building my first TH plane the other day, the Edge, and am about 75% done with building the CY. I used both the Edge instructions and the build info here, and choose to do my own thing with a few aspects.

The CY goes together really easy. The high you can get from Welders is a plus. A nice touch is the servo areas are already cut-to-size for the TH kit servos - sweet! Lasers cut foam nicer than I do.

Hella nice job on the CY, guys. Gonna maiden the Edge in the next day or so, then the CY. Fun times in 2012 and it's only January.
