It's AC I get my wire here: http://www.jacobs-online.biz/nichrome_wire.htm
Both 24 and 26 ga. So far it has cut everything I have thrown at it!

Is that just a computer power supply? I need something different and I have a couple CPS's laying around.

No it's not. Bought it special for this power suply See post # 14. The grill and power cord were off an old computer PS.

I would suggest having a very strong spring to keep tension on the wire. It's easy for the wire to sag while making a cut.

Spring installed and a high voltage power supply sourced. It's 24v and 0.7A. I now have a cutter that can do 50cm+ so well chuffed.
