DSMX x9303

Hi,

I was thinking of upgrading my JR x9303 to DSMX so I could fly at events that have lots of pilots.

Anybody do a simlar upgrade through Horizon--how long did it take and how much did it cost?

Any tips on shipping; I got the radio used w/o original box?

Thanks much

Pack it in lots of bubble wrap.

The queue is very short right now. You can check the average wait time here:

The charge for the DSMX upgrade is $75.00 inlcuding shipping to Horizon, you will also be responsible for whatever the shipping charge is to return the unit to you and that will depend on what you want e.g. ground, two day air, overnight etc.

Andy already made some packing suggestions, linked you to the service website but didn't mention shipping time. For me, it's five business days via UPS Ground each way from and to Utah added to the service time. So in my case when I had my JR 12X done, it took a total of about three weeks on the calendar. Your shipping time will depend on your location and what you're willing to pay for return shipping....

Thanks for the info! Three weeks door to door means I'll wait a couple of months until the seasons really over.

Does the 9303 lose all it's programming when they do the swap? Since it doesn't have a removable sd card, I may want to wait on figuring out a complex sailplane setup unless there's another way to backup programming.

Well they say it should not affect existing models but to backup your stuff just in case. There is a backup program available for your radio and my 12X came with backup software so that was done before I sent the radio back for the update.

That said; my 12X came back with the programming intact. You just have to rebind all the models and I would verify the programming before I flew if I were you even though I found nothing wrong with mine I'm glad I completed the process before flying.

Keris, you may have a problem getting it upgraded. You show a DSX9 which is almost identical to the 9303, BUT here is the problem....

DSMX is owned by Spektrum/Horizon , they can only do the upgrade path on Horizon sourced sets. Your local JR service centre will not be able to get the parts, Horizon wont do it as it is not one of their systems.
