Andrew Jesky - AJ Aircraft L73" Laser 230z

Check out the new Laser 240z, a 3D and precision bird from Andrew Jesky.

Splash

The Laser 230z is a 3D bird and a precision flyer.

The wings have been designed for precision flying and also have great 3d characteristics. The large fuse allows the model for fly well upright or on it's side. Big control surfaces offer good authority at all speeds.

The electric power setup runs from 8 to 12 cell lipos with around 6-7 minute flight times. A DA-35 or the Valley View 40cc twin with a 16oz tank will give you flight times around 15 minutes. Andrew's favorite setup for the 73" Laser 230z is the 8s electric setup.

I agree, not very creative on the "paint scheme." Really dated and old school.

Also agree that the performance has got to be incredible.

I like it. I'm glad someone else does not like it. That means it will more likely be in stock and at a competitive price. If we all wanted the same thing then it would never be in stock and the price would be higher.

The scheme shown is supposed to look outdated. It is a retro scheme based on the full scale plane. The other scheme is the competition scheme AJ uses in competition. At first I thought it should be more flashy but I remember having an original 51" Slick with a similar scheme and thinking it was the easiest plane to differentiate at all degrees of rotation for precise flying. I can not fly it well unless I can see it well and be able to differentiate slight degrees of rotation.

It's gorgeous, the paint scheme is meant to be a tribute to the original Laser, similar to the true to the original Extreme Flight Laser with the shooting stars, but this one is actually a modern interpretation, that's how I see it anyway.

It's not the scheme I dislike, it's just the ------ thickness of the fuse I guess I could describe it as. Maybe it's just the angle of this pictures.

I remember not liking the tallness or thickness of the original 89" slicks when they came out, the big flat side of the fuse. But, I have to say, over time it has grown on me. For me, I just forget that it's supposed to look like something else, and appreciate it for what it is. I wouldn't kick her out of bed if ya get my drift.

I still have an original 51" Slick with the original Jesky scheme. See below.

I have many vision issues, and I normally have to put lots of fluorescent orange on my planes to be able to maintain orientation, but the old Slick color scheme has always been easy for me to see.

Some people may not like how tall the fuse is at first but it is that way intentionally for flight characteristics. It allows the plane to have enough side area to fly like it had Side Force Generators (SFG) without having to deal with the SFGs. Some people really like the option of SFGs so Andrew had the factory make them as well. Personally I like how planes fly with SFGs but I dont like having to put them on and take them off, they get scraped up easily on landings, and vibrate loose eaily on gas planes.

That's true, but the amazing improvement they made in all flight characteristics of my ancient Version 1 Slick makes all of the above worthwhile.

I got the plane six years ago when the original owner tore the landing gear off it twice in his first six flights, gave up on it, and sold it to me, as is, for a hundred bucks. I was always a bit disappointed in how it flew. It wasn't the 3D plane I thought it would be.

A year or so ago, I finally thought to put the SFGs on it. The transformation was incredible. It did everything, without exception, way better. It's now the great 3D rig it's supposed to be.
