I did one layer of laminate on my elevons. They seem plenty stiff for a super light wing.

I have no laminate but did add (glued) a piece of 3.0mm x 0.5mm CF to the elevons trailing edge. The trailing edge happens to be ~3.0mm thick.

Thx
There's nothing really different as far as the power system, except that I'm running a 3s pack vs a recommended 2s (I think). Prop is a 5x5.5. Only thing I would really suggest is a GOOD quality esc. I have a cheap 15amp hobby king one and I CANT fly with less than 50% throttle because the switching is so noisy that the 72mhz rx cant handle it and the plane goes for a ride.

As for the FPV gear. Any micro camera will work, but I'm using the XM495 by hobbywireless. Its ok, but the resolution is kind of lacking and it doesnt like light changes. But its small and it fits. I also have a 500mw vtx, but I really think a 250mw would be fine, that's just what I had on hand.

Oh a would suggest a wide angle lens. I tried a pan servo, but it kept getting ripped off. Plus the plane rocks a lot in flight and that can get tough to see if the lens is too narrow.

Otherwise I love this little thing. One last thing. I did put another layer of the laminate on the bottom because of all the cutouts I had to make. I found the wing was getting a little soft.

Interesting. I'm looking forward to see how much my wing weighs.

I test flew my heavy weight Scythe last weekend...it flew GREAT!
It's as fast (but no faster) than my 4s Reaper but it's a lot quicker to turn and roll.

I'm going to try it out in combat against some Assassins and see if it's quickness allows my to out-fly my friends planes - I'll let anyone who is interested know how it turns out....

My build was stock with the exception of an additional wing spar, the gear is as follows:
Motor: Rewound Emax 2812 - 378 watts @ 32a with a Value Hobby 7x6 prop: (with an APC style 7x6 it was 311 watts @ 28a)
Hobbywing 30A esc with timing set to high
Battery: 3s 1300 mAh 40c
Servos: Towerpro 90s MG's

Trent

Wow, Scythe with a re-wound 2812, and a full 7x6 prop. Yeah, I bet that zooms.

My setup is the same, but I cut the prop down to 4.5 or 5" (can't remember) and I still feel like it's speedy

What do you think of that motor? I have one on the way for a micro parkjet project. I am going to run it on 3s 450. It only pulls 8 amps! It will end up in a wing next. Depron doesn't last forever-

How does it's speed with the cut down prop compare to that of your Assassin?
And have you tried combat with it?

Man this thing rocks. I built the scythe last week and tried it out this weekend with two different motors.

First I put a microjet v3 from grayson hobbies with a 6x4 prop and a 1300 3cell. This motor gave it great thrust and a top speed of 75 mph. I was happy with this motor but i still wanted top end speed.

Then i installed a Don's wicked 2700 kv motor with a 4.1x4.1 prop and 1000 4cell.
This motor was absolutely insane. I was consistently reaching top speeds over 100mph.

I couldnt be more happy with this wing. When I purchased it I never thought i would be reaching 100 mph speeds for under $100. I have been flying an f27q for months and the scythe just blows it out of the water for speed, cost and just plain fun.

Every time I look at one of those motors from micro Dan I keep thinking I need to get one.

I used this motor http://www.donsrc.com/cart/index.php...&product_id=12 from Dons RC for $20
Its out of stock now but he has these http://www.donsrc.com/cart/index.php...&product_id=65 which are even faster for $20 also.

Just be sure to run the recommended props or you may burn the motor up.
4.1x4.1 is perfect on 4s

The neat thing about the MicroDan is it draws under 8 amps with a 4x4 prop and you can run a little 450 3s pack. Pitch speed of 77mph. That makes for a light setup on a tiny wing! The motor is only 14g.
