Getting a file cut

Hi all,
If I were to design a frame in a CAD program (say autodesk) is there a company that would be able to cut just a few ( just like 3 or 4)? Does that kind of thing even exist?

Yes, for just about any format.

There are folks in here with lasers, CNCrouters, 3d printers, etc, etc that can do the work.

It is good before starting the design to talk or write to whoever you want to do the parts first.

File formats is only part of it. What kind of material to use for differnent parts as well as how to size the parts to account for the cutter itself.

Thank you to you all for the help. I have been away from my computer for a few days and was unable to reply. Very generous of you all to offer! I was just asking in the general sense and do not have an actual file ready. Are there companies that do this or just you all?

Do you mean laser cutting? There are quite a few folks now days with lasers who will do cutting.

CAD work? Not so many. It is time consuming and people do not want to pay for that amount of work.

Or do you mean the advice part? If it is about setting up files for laser cutting, yes, I can help with that.

Thank you so much! I should be able to do the CAD work myself. I am looking more to get carbon fiber cut but thats pretty far down the road for now. I am really just asking around to see if there is a service where I can send them a CAD file and then have them machine it and send me the parts.

Thank you to you both. Neither of you do carbon fiber though correct?

Carbon fiber does not cut well on the laser. The best way to do CF is to water-jet it.
Milling of CF creates dust that is very bad for your health.

I may have a solution. I am checking on it now. A neighbor has been setting up a CNC router for cutting carbon fiber and we have discussed combining resources to increase our capabilities.

When you try to laser cut carbon, the resin burns away but the carbon doesn't to the same extent so you get a very furry edge. Burning resin is pretty nasty as well. As mentioned already, water jet or milling is the way to go.

I had a meeting with a friend, yesterday. He is CNC milling and we are going to get setup for doing carbon fiber. It doesn't help you right now, but stay tuned to http://www.lasercuttingbyjohn.com and/or throw a "Like" at our facebook page so you will see the announcement when we are ready.
