Sorry Dan. OK...... I hope you understand what I am saying.... On Nitro planes... If the fuel tank is lower than the carburetor on the engine it will quite running. The fuel tank has to be higher than the carburetor on Nitro engines.

that theory only works, if you only fly with wheels down! hmmm no shure I could do that! and since we're talking bout an SBACH, I am pretty shure he's not gonna fly it that way either!

my rule of thumb, has allways been with-in 1/2 to 3/4 of inch, one way or other from thrust line!

Something tells me the fuel tank is going to need to feed from a lot of different locations.
I run a pressure tap from the exhaust back to the tank with a fuel filter inline so it doesn't dump cr*p back into the tanks. I also filter from the fuel can to the tank and from the tank to the carb. Nothing I can do about changing the elevation of the tank relative to the carb short of modding the firewall. The engine ran fine in other birds but was giving me fits on the Edge 540. Sometimes it would run till dry & other times, well, CRASH at the end. I hated the color scheme on it so no loss on my end.

just a lil investigation of my own!

if you notice the fuel lines come out at the same level as the carb, don't think you could ask for a much better alignment!

Dang

Some good, some ?? I got the new 6061 Al tubing (3') in hand to make new exhaust system. Went/been in search of a 12x1 die to thread it. If you can believe this, the prices ranged from about $28 from Grainger to $56 from Fastenal. None of them were gold/silver/platinum/diamond plated. Just plain 'ol carbon steel. My local auto auto parts dealer lady found one for $10 plus shipping thru Amazon and agreed to buy it thru her account. How's that for supporting your local customers? Guess I'll see what happens after the die gets here.

I highly suspect I'll need to reduce the radius of the Al tubing to get the die started and get the threads on. Now all I need is to figure out how to make some short radius bends without kinking the tubing. I know about:
  • tubing benders, will it/they make a 'short' radius bend
  • springs/unknown if they will handle short radius bends
  • frozen soap methods that still need the above tools to make the bends
  • heating the tube without kinking the tubing
All in all, it'll be some testing to see what happens. Ever onward! On the plus side, the weather stinks and I'm inside keeping warm.

I have both.. Tube bender and spring. I prefer the spring! It can do tighter bends(short) If you want I can send them to you to use, than send back. I think I have 3 or 4 sets...... haha
I have been working on our New Sbach 50cc. We decided to do a different color than anyone else.. LOL we did that we our first one, so why not again.... We still have the Blue/black but now we have Red/Yellow. VERY Sharp colors!

Maybe you could send one up for a build review going electric to RC Sport-Flyer, with the included gear? I'd be glad to do a build review and flight test if the editor will go for it. No mods on this end, just from factory specs. I only mod my own personal birds. Build reviews have to stand on their own merits and supplied equipment per the mfg./vendor.
PM me the proposed scheme, I'd love to see it.
I'll dig around and see if someone has a spring up here to make the bends, otherwise I may be calling you. Tube is Al 6061, 1/2" od, 21/64"id, 1/16" wall.
I'm 'die' ing for something to do...
