Ok. I just know that the side walls where the canopy is attached are weak points and can compress during a nose in hit. I have used Popsicle sticks to reinforce those walls so I though your opening may also require some additional stiffening in case the removable piece fell out on impact.

Just my 2 cents.

I have popsicle sticks spanning the old servo holes and re-glued some foam in there as well, hopefully its enough to take the impact of a nose hit and protect the opening where the flap is in the fuse. I also cut the flap on a bevel to help as well...

I saw the pop sticks in the canopy area but not the side opening. Sounds like you got it covered.

Trying to get my plane back in the sky after a year of being down. My motor is angled about 10 degrees to the side and I think that is really throwing off the flight of the plane. What is the best way to fix this. I've read the motor mount mods, but I don't really want to separate the whole plane. Any suggestions?

It does not need fixed if it is angled to right ([ccw from top] when viewed from the back), just go fly it. That angle is built into the plane by design.

I got my skys today and I also notice my motor shaft is angled to the right when viewed from the back.


This is normal? May I know why? I am not very good with it. Total noob here.

Its to counter the torque of the motor as it spins. Without it the plane will roll everytime you give it a decent amount of throttle.

Yup. The offsets counteract the motor's torque so don't try to straighten it!

I feel like I am always having to trim because of this. Like the wind created by the prop pushes on one side of the tail and I have to manually counteract it.

The angle does look like it's a bit much. I went over all file attachments in this thread 10 pages, a great many motor modifications and half of them or more have the shaft straight. Others are angled to the right viewing plane from the rear.

Then I went back on my Bixler ll thread and look at all of those attachments. On the Bixler two the plastic can that the motor mounts to has no means to be angle. The can is symmetrical there is no way to put an angle on it unless you shimed it.

When I was first learning to fly which I still am my flight instructor told me on takeoff to hold some rudder right because it will want to twist to the left that sounds like torque to me. I later asked him why and he said P factor, understand what torque is but he didn't explain what P factor is.

I fly sky surfer V2, it's not stock, it's very powerful, and the motor is dead not straight.

As I said I saw some angle in some of the photos on the attachments in this thread I saw just as many with new motor setups that were dead not straight.

Eugene I thought P factor was what happens when my plane is upside down and I don't know it. It's hard on shorts and tennis shoes.
