Slope soaring the Cumulus this time

And the same trick again, this time with my 83 inch 5.5 pound Cumulus.
Allan Slope soaring Vintage model (4 min 20 sec)

And this time the landing was dreadfull! more like my usual. No damage though.
Thanks again for the video Carl. No more I promise.

It is surprising how well it soars. It has a pretty solid wing loading but I guess I'm never surprised when it thermals a way when flying from the flat so why shouldn't it slope soar too? I have an altitude log that shows a thermal climb from 800 feet to 1500 feet, much of it just free flighting.
I did realise that I had the aileron rudder mix and differential wrong. You can see the adverse yaw on the video. Next time out it will be much better balanced. I never noticed it flyinmg from the flat so that was a plus for getting up close and personal on the slope.

Yes... lets see someone else have a go. That really was my motivation for posting this lot. This is actually a good way to enjoy nice long flights with your vintage ship without a fuel bill.

Cannot beat big wings for grabbing air. Lovely bit of flying showing just how graceful vintage flying can be - even the loops had style.

more please

Just excellent Allan.
The country side looks so very different compared to this nick of the woods. If you had to, would you be able to land down below onto the flat fields, walk down and retrieve the model? What wind speed was required to stay aloft? Great looking model and really nice to see it up close. Thanks.

Thanks John, Yes, there are paddocks below but it would be a challenge to land out at the bottom, very hard to judge the touch down. If I'm in trouble for lift in light conditions I usually fly staight down wind into the face, If you carry extra energy you can flair upwards and drop it on the face.
This hill works all the way down to a few knots. Cumulus will fly easily on 10 mph here.
