Interesting find there Chris
a sort of Multifun-meets-LeFish type lightweight EPP thing
would probably go well covered in lightweight lam film
you gonna get one?

Phil.

Excerpt from the Hacker WP
Vagabond
...For even more aerobatic performance wings and tail surfaces are coated with smooth foil. All this together makes Vagabond extremely powerful aerobatic slope glider with which you can fly on otherwise inaccessible hard slopes....

Price is ok but shipping could be a drag

That bit about the "coating" caught my eye too!

Are Hacker planes not available over there (they have a huge range of foamy 3D and indoor planes)?

Rad!!!

Wow, so stoked to see this!

Really love the canopy... they got that part spot-on in my opinion!!

Elevator looks like it might be just a little shy of 180* rotation, but I'm sure that's easy enough to fix.

I'm gonna have to get one... oh wait, I think I've already got a couple

Steve

P.S. - I feel very honored that a company like Hacker took such an interest in our little humble corner of the universe. An ARF Le Fish -style plane has been a looooooong time coming, enough that I wondered if this whole thing was all in vain. And I had nothing to do with this product, but to my eye it's a winner. Can't wait to see some flight reports!

P.P.S. - I'm not saying this plane is a Le Fish (although it sure looks a lot like one to me), but part of the point in releasing the Le Fish plan as open source and proving its performance via lots of videos was that someday, somewhere, someone might go to the trouble of releasing an ARF / molded version of the design, or at least a design intended for the same kind of flying. That sure seems like what the Vagabond is, and I'm so glad it's here!! Slope aerobatics needs more ARFs, for sure!!!

"And I had nothing to do with this product, but to my eye it's a winner."

There's a pretty large contingent of us whom disagree with you, Steve, not about the plane but about the importance and impact of your years of effort.

Thanks again for all you've done!

Oh, thanks Ken, but what I meant is that I did not work with or have any contact with Hacker; I knew nothing of this product until a little earlier today.

It's clear to my eye that the Vagabond derives in good part from Le Fish, but let's not forget Le Fish in its current form was itself inspired by many other designs, most especially the MiniToons, Madslide and Voltij.

And the ultrabatic performance Le Fish enjoys today is wholly thanks to the genius of Peter Richner's construction techniques, which he was kind enough to share with the rest of us.

My main hope is that the Vagabond is a good performer and that it proves the lowest barrier to entry yet for a great ultrabatics glider. This kind of flying is too much fun not to share as widely as possible!!

I'm sorry, I get all confused with all these new words that are given to old things... The intention is to change the title in due course!

It looks much better now

EDIT: I ordered one - with shipping it came to 95 EUR, about $128. Cheap!

Hope it can fly as well as this! I don't see anything old about this - in fact, I've never seen anything like it before - hence the new name, ULTRABATICS
In & Out of Grace (1 min 14 sec)

The canopy design makes it much easier on the eyes while seeming to maintain a lot of the side area necessary for your low-altitude shenanigans
