$99 19" LCD Monitor for FPV (12V)

I have been looking for a while for a good bright large monitor for my ground station case, after buying and returning different models I found the perfect one at Target.

They are currently at $99.99 on my local Target stores ELEMENT ELEFT195

19" LCD LED
720P
VGA, HDMI, COMPONENT, AV inputs
Works on 12V 2amps or less
Very bright compared to other monitors I have tested
Great Resolution

VERY SIMPLE TO TAKE APART and modify for custom cases if you want, its very light also.

BLUE SCREEN or BLACK SCREEN = You can turn off the blue screen on the Menu BUTTTT it will give you a Black screen instead. It will hold some static before going into black/blue screen but it wakes up very quickly once the signal is getting better........ In my case I use a DVR between the Receiver and Monitor and the DVR always keeps the monitor showing static.

Get them while you can, I know I will be buying a few more to keep them for future use.

Here are some pics

From the Element web page:

Display

Screen Size: 18.5inch
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Panel Resolution: 1366 x R.G.B. x768
Brightness: 180-250 cd/m2
Contrast ratio: 1000:1
Maximum Color: 16.7 M
Response time: 6.5ms

So, per their own specs, it is not any brighter than the Vizio many of us have, and even looks a little on the dim side possibly (although I don't know why the range of Brightness values is there, other than to show a min/max spread maybe?). In comparison, the 19" Vizio is rated at a straight 250 cd/m2 but is obviously adjustable up to that level. Just an observation...

The Vizio does ok, but if it were up to me, it would be brighter. Some of the smaller monitors I've seen are up in the range of 400-450 and that sounds like it would be much better for daylight viewing. I have to have mine very well shaded to use in bright sun, and even then the light from behind me is a problem too. I've actually been contemplating making a black wing-like thing to put on my back to seal off the light from coming in behind me. A smaller, brighter monitor might be better than the Vizio in this regard. Before you take yours back, take it outside and see what you think. The Vizio won't be any better, brightness wise. It is DC though, and I do like the size of it. They may be hard to find these days - I'm not sure if they are still in production.

I'm curious if there is an adjustment for minimum input level for the composite video that goes to black/blue screen?
It maybe as simple as locating a resistor and changing its value to eliminate blue screen

Is there a way to adjust the video out level of your receiver to output 0.1v out instead of 0 (zero) volts. This may eliminate blue screen on almost any monitor if its threashold is any level above .1 volt.

I wonder if this is something that could be easily addressed with the Eagle Tree distribution block

Brightness: 180-250 cd/m2 Seems like a typo because its brighter than my vizio 24"

Test (0 min 7 sec)
