Show your WOODI wings

How many of us wing nuts still build wood wings? no foam cores just built up. no fomie wings there are plenty of places for that. lets look at structure and methods of construction and tips and tricks. I would like to think a few of us around.

That is some beautiful work right there, looks light too. It'd never survive me.

Keen to build one myself. Been looking around for a plan suitable. Around 1200mm would be nice.

If it were a woodi someone would be using its shattered remains to pick his teeth. No woodi can do that.

I wish there was a way to do that without posting something.

Seems most of the wood builds have been on the nurflugal forum, but foam is in favour at the moment.Have a look at the 'older' and 'show your' threads.

I have some new foam cores I was going to laminate but I would rather do a balsa built-up. They last forever.

As long as they're treated with respect, stored properly, not flown like a combat foamy, they're good for 30 years looking good as new. I've thought about building one for slope gliding once I find a decent slope around here. I'd think with lower wing loading it would be more nimble than an EPP foam wing.

True. A decent Balsa will outfly a foamie any day. Proved that in the past.
EPP is just too draggy. EPO is better but gets grubby looking.
I have covered EPP and it works well but you gotta be careful shrinking it as the wings can twist too easy, unlike a balsa model.

I think foam starts getting floppy after a while too. At least the elapor in my EZ* did eventually (which is why I retired it).
