advice on restoring a robbe joy
Years ago i bought a robbe joy
Its the one on the top picture
For those who do not know this one ; it was a balsa build up wing; with the wing ribs at 45 degrees to the leading/ training edge , polyhedral wing with a flat center panel.
The fuse is gfk with a aluminum tail boom and a plastic bracket to mount the v tail.
I never got the thing to fly well and at one time decided to cut off the tail boom to replace it with a carbon fiber rod and even sourced a arrow shaft as replacement,
Then life got in the way and the project was put on hold,
Reading trough this forum reminded me of it and i would like to have advice on how to best continue.
One thing i hated was the v tail and want to change to a conventional tail setup.
So first question; would a arrow shaft be strong enough and how long does it need to be (in compassion to the wingspan) and then how big does the tail have to be?
Regarding the tail; i do not have any vacuum bagging equipment or experience so would sheet balsa or covered build up be better?
The servo's that used to be in it where hs 81 ; at that time the smallest servo's i could afford ; is there any use to use modern digital servo's or would any analog like the hs 55 do?

An arrow shaft will work fine - you can choose one for stiffness (ask the vendor). Pick a length similar to what the original boom was, perhaps an inch or two longer.
Sheet balsa tails will work, too.
Get the smallest servos you can find. These days, HS55's are pretty big! Try Dymond D-47s, they should be ideal.

Have you cut it up yet?
I have the non motor glider I got second hand.
Great light lift slope flyer around local lakeshore.
That is until the tails got blown off using a local clubs fast winch.
Flys great after repairs, but pod is now getting inside fiberglass work cure the crash cracks.
