Another quick one...the first Saito FG-40 video I've found...!!

Dear Fellow Four-Stroke GASSER Mill Lovers:

The PIPE Here once again, very quickly, with what I think is the very first video of a Saito FG-40 mill in an aircraft (ground run only)...

SAITO FG-40 Starting up (1 min 11 sec)

...I'd bet that the new OS 40 cm3 gasser mill should run at least as well!!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE....!!

That's a low oil content. ... 3%

Does this new engine have "proper" bearings on its connecting rod?

Hi there Turk I would love this engine to be a good runner out of the box . This is more than affordable like the 9cc . They just need to bloody run well ! I know Im probably asking too much but here's hopeing. I would be the 1st to give it the thumbs up. I wonder if this engine will be easier to turn it into a winner than the 9cc . I guess if its an off the shelf carb suited to the size of the engine it maybe ok .Cheers and good luck from the pope

Last weekend I was testing my SAITO FG-36 with Xoar 18x8, 19x8 and APS 18x6W with the next Static thrust results:
(Electronic Fish Scale is very sensitive to elastic rope plane was strapped to. Min/Max measurements for full throttle shown.)
Xoar-19x8 => RPM~6900 => 6.5-6.7kG
Xoar-18x8 => RPM~7500 => 6.3-6.5kG
APC-18x6W => RPM~8200 => 6.7-6.9kG
Look like I will stay with APC-18x6W for my 6.3kG 2+m wingspan RV-8 from SlipStream.

I also did measurement on my other plane with SAITO FG-21 with 16x8 Pattern prop and found out that static thrust is well above my expectations: 5.5-5.9kG
For 4.3kG plane it is awesome static thrust! Should fly like a rocket :-).

My friend at the field is also tested his SlipStream RV-8 with DLE-35R and with Xoar 18x10 he easily got 8.0+kG static thrust (Sorry, I didn't check RPM at that time).

OS GF40 looks so tempting to me as a replacement in my SlipStream RV-8.
My current setup is a bit too heavy 6.3kG +fuel+smoke oil . . . I wish to drop 0.3-0.4kG with OS GF40 and at the same time to gain ~10% more power.

Andrei.

I think the big detractor on the NGH big gasser is that it does not have a muffler and the short exhaust pipe is too thin to put anything else on it. It is surprising they never took that into consideration with everyone having to reduce engine noise nowadays.

The biggest detractor of the NGH is questionable engineering, manufacturing, and product support. Saito had issues and stood behind them. I think OS took this long to work out the issues prior to release.

Never heard of this Chinese manufacturer but their engines look like good quality judging by pictures of the fit/finish of their engine's exterior and internal components. This particular engine appears significantly underpowered based on data. Here are videos of this engine on the Chinese equivalent of youtube,

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDI4NDEzNDA4.html

It is less than half the price of comparable Japanese made engines. For me, I keep my engines forever and want them to last almost as long. There is a feel good factor and peace of mind by buying Japanese quality engines. And there is also the cool-factor of Japanese made engines because they are beautiful to look at and don't have the Chinese generic communist styling. For these reasons, Japanese engines are well worth the extra money. If Thunder Tiger produces a similar 4-cycle gas engine, then that it is worth serious consideration.
