Did you buy one?

I've had some stability problems with my hk minimosd 1.1 recently so I thought about switching to this new design. Looks like they've got everything hkpilot on stock in the EU

No, haven't got one yet, I'm keeping an eye on it to see some reviews first

Cheers,
Geoff

Sure, hope it will take the most recent firmware, since in the product description, they refer to the solder-blob-switch to activate PAL. And that was obsoleted by a software switch in more recent minimosd firmware versions.

I have one, i have installed on my Blackout Mini H, however on that system i have 12v camera... but on my other.. the thorax i have a 5V camera...
I am just trying to figure out if there is a bypass route or if the 12V in/out is independant?
etc....

any information on anyone trying to power a 5v camera with this OSD?

I don't see any power regulators... the unit does not heat up with 12v source.. so i wonder if it is a straight pass thru.
I can't seem to find any connections on the board anywhere... getting the 12v source.... other than the in/out.

hi, http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/com...wiring_diagram

This original minimosd hardware has two power stages, one for the telemetry port side and one for the camera/tx side, requiring 5V and 12 V respectively. This is in order to avoid noise from the servo power lines feeding into the circuit. One can solder bridge two pads on the pcb to connect the two power stages, allowing the telemetry side to be fed by the video side's power line.

With regard to your question, that means that you cannot get 5V on the video circuit.

To get 5V to your cam you could connect

* your camera's video out and ground wires to the minimosd

* the camera's voltage and ground lines to your flight conroller / apm 5V

* all of your video tx' wires (given that takes 12V) to the minimosd

* a 3s lipo to the minimosd video side = video tx power line

That said it looks like it's always the better choice to have a clean speration of video circuit and everything else. I.e. instead of connecting that 5V camera directly to your flight controller, use an LC (inductor/capacitor) filter.

You should also consider how the flight controller is powered: for my apm I use two seperate power circuits (jumper not in place), ie. outputs power from BEC, sensors from power module. Otherwise sensor readings twitch around with servo activity. Maybe refrain from the idea to power the cam right from a flight controller's power line.

What I would do is, put an lc filter directly on your flight pack to power the video circuit (minimosd 12V side, video transmitteR). connect a hextronic ubec or some other kind of clean 5V switching regulator to the (lc filtered) video's power rail in order to get juice for your camera...

Thanks for the reply.... I was actually speaking to the MicroOSD from HK which is a smaller version of the MinimOSD.

I apologize for the confusion.... that being said, I have found that the Power line is a straight pass thru on the MicroOSD.

so feeding 12V only on the camera/transmitter side, you get the video output with osd ?
just checked hk for documentation but nope.

no... the osd is dependant on the 5v side for the FC.
the other side the 12v is there to power the camera... if you have a 12v.
the other MiniOSD and not the MicroOSD worked differently.
You were not able to see OSD without the 12V source and or shorting the Digital GND. and you couldn't update the CharSet without the 12V source either.

Hi, I just subscribed to this thread. I'm not sure to totally understand what you wrote, but I use a 5V external source for the camera side and see correctly the OSD. And I updated the charset many times with the micro OSD just powered by the USB 5V on the Mavlink side.

Good to hear that worked for you...
The Original 3DR OSD and DIYDrones OSD required the 12v to be powered to update the CharSet. ;-)
There are many knockoffs out there...

HKpilot osd 1.1 (the hobbyking minimosd 1.1) too is sufficiently powered for flashing with just the 5V side connected fwiw
