Not too sure about that. some of it's questionable.. some useful tests happening though in the process.. he's having a lot of issues w/ his, i wonder if its the crafts fault or operator errors.

diydrone should employed engineer to working on theirs pixhawk to avoid bugs!because at this price it s not diy plateform..iris is more expansive than dji phantom which has a solid software on it..
in my case,i am pretty happy with my apm but it s clone so very cheap so if i crash it due to a bug,it s not a problem..but for iris which cost 600usd it s not the same case....they make money with open source project but for this plug and play version they should employed real person to working on it and fixed bugs

That is exactly what's happening with the developer versions that are on the field. Remember its not an APM inside the Pixhawk either so comparing it to a clone APM is not quite the same.

developer version is for free developers not real enginers who are paid by the compagnie and working on it all the week
open source is a great thing but as soon as you make money on it,specialy if you want to buy something more expansive than dji phantom and pnp, free developers are not enaugh..it requires full development

IRIS vid

Yes you need to purchase your own craft, and test out. It's an "Honor to Do" Not perfect but not bad either, I like the direction of the IRIS, the follow me and tablet use as ground station is awsome, droidplanner voice information notify's of current readings, Hight, Mode, Battery warning, makes things a lot easier.

Here is my little test done over the weekend. So IRIS and Phantom side by side same camera GoProII. Just upgraded the Phantom with DJI Black props, cut down to fit Phantom, also some T-Motor upgrade and Ghost OSD installed. Stock white transmitter
IRIS- Droidplanner on Toshiba Thrive ground station, 9XR (OpenTx http://code.google.com/p/opentx/) Flysky DST + V8FRII, DO NOT USE D8R-II Plus unless firmware upgraded, could not get to work as shipped from HK.

To see Video side by side, notice the difference in sound, no gimbal or moon gel, Just Velcro for Phantom, and used IRIS GoPro mount. Here:

when the code will be ready.......so it s not for the moment i think....
3dr should employe software engineer to working on their iris...opensource is good but they try to sell something like a dji phantom without a solid rock software(mission planner is really buggy on almost each release)

3DR has already been doing that for some time now. Some of the most active contributors are getting supported financially by 3DR so that they can spend serious time on the project. And it clearly shows with a marked increase in code progression and robustness. And all the code is still open sourced, in case someone is worried.
