Question
Recommendations for a motor for Kyosho fan

Hi guys,
I have an old Kyosho Learjet with two 75mm stock Kyosho fans. I used to fly it on two Mega 16/15/2 motors with two 2S packs. It flies ok, but I was hoping to get some more power. Can you recommend a good alternative that would run in the Kyosho fan on a 3S pack (3S is too much for the Mega 16/15/2)? I have a Kontronic 400-36 in my Kyosho F-16 and that flies great, but I can't afford two new Kontronics. Mega 16/15/3 is a possibility, but they are hard to come by these days. What else is out there?
Thanks in advance.

The 16/15/2 is ok on 3s in a 70mm fan but you are probably correct that the Kyosho unit might be pushing it a bit too far. Since you have the motors though it might be worth seeing what the figures are just in case. The 16/15/3 is ok on 3s but not quite hot enough in a 70mm fan - so might be good in the Kyosho one. The 16/15/3 is too hot for 4s though imo. They are still easily available over here. Het do a number of motors in various winds and can lengths one of which would probably suit you - Mega rip offs and not the same quality but they do what is needed.

I fly my Kyosho LearJet on Wemotec mini fans with Mega 16EDF motors powered by two 3S 3900mAh LiPos in parallel. Gives me almost 150 watts/pound. A far cry from the original Kyosho setup with 7-cell 2000mAh NiCd batteries!

The HET 3W is a good substitute for the Mega 16/15/3.

I tried the Mega /2 on 3S in the Kyosho fan. I went to full throttle (maybe not even) for a second, and it registered 56A, so I immediately shut it down. The /2 is rated only for 35A, so 3S is out of the question. I wonder if anyone knows the numbers for Mega /3 on 3S in a Kyosho fan.

Thanks for your input Julian!

Bruce,
Is the 3W a direct substitute for Mega 16/15/x, i.e. is the motor diameter and shaft diameter the same?
Thanks,
Doc
