Build Log
30" ws x-47b

Hey all,

Been wanting to try to make this plane for a while and I decided to go for it. This is a super budget build and my first scratch build. Please if you have negative comments take them to the helicopter forum .

Foam: $tree Readyboard
Battery: 1000 3S *edit
ESC: HK Red Brick 20A
EDF/Motor: 50mm HK Alloy
Amp: 18A

I made the design myself in SolidWorks and printed out the drawings on 8.5x11 sheets to cut out the foam. Some interesting techniques had to be used to get them right.
Heres the design in SolidWorks:

Currently I have all the foam cut out still working on placement of all the electronics. Heres the airframe:

I will update more as I get farther into this.

Looks like a Blended Wing Body. Nice looking plane!

Plane looks great, exactly like the drawings..... great job. What do you plan to use to adhere the foam sheets together?

Might consider Glidden 'Gripper' Paint as foam glue. Cheap easy and V good. Albeit it needs to cure for a min of 24 hours, preferably 48.. but it adds serious rigidity to the structure as unexpected bonus.
You may also find that a 40 amp esc is needed for that HK50 mm alloy edf.
30 a is proving inadequate on mine.

Its been a while since I posted on here but lately I have made some good progress.

I do have concerns but am still going forward with the build...
1. I do not think the ducts are large enough.
2. I think that it is too heavy. Currently ~13oz with all electronics + battery (pre coating)
3. I feel as if just ailerons will not do for only control surfaces (no extra space to add more or put on drag rudders)
4. Wings do not seem large enough.

Without further adieu!

looks great so far 13oz isnt heavy for a 50mm. whats the wing area?

most mine are 16-17 oz and can top 85mph with a don's wicked 4s setup.

please clean up that spagetti from in front of the unit.

Yeah I had to do all the wiring into the plane to begin and it will be cleaned up. Not close to working on the interior, trying to get the exterior and wing/elevons in and working and glassing then I will go to the wire routing and cleaning up the inside.

I have learned trying to make this plane with this size is very hard with the ducting taking up most of the room in the main fuselage and wiring, battery, rx, etc. also taking up a lot of room. Its what I get for making it fit within a $tree foam board size 20x30in.
