today I saw an f- 86 attempt to fly from the grass. the pilot was almost to the northernmost end of the runway. there was an east to west cross field wind.
this pilot had a takeoff run of over 300 feet and never attained take off speed.
he made the decision to horse it off the ground when it reached the end of the runway. his desire to fly overwhelmed his concern for his aircraft and when it stalled and crashed, guess what he decide the cause of the crash was?
THE GRASS WAS TOO LONG!
instead of taking the blame for his poor decision making, he decided to lay the damage of his aircraft on the shoulders of the grounds keeper instead of where it should have been.
I'm sure you know the answer to this one.
the grass should be mowed more often on holiday weekends, I agree, but poor decisions are just that and blame should be placed with the pilot who is the final decision maker on rotating or aborting.
