'Cleaning the table off'? Is that what we're supposed to do as part of a build???

No wonder I'm always in such a mess!
I'll have to try and remember to do that... sometime... !

Hi eye4wings: I get so many tools, glues, pins, sanding blocks etc, etc lying around it starts to interfere with moving parts around, hehe. That when its time to cleanup!! Doug B

Progress!

I have finished the fuse hatch! Sorry no photo evidence. You'll have to take my word for it for now.

Hey Paul: Thats great! I forgot to mention to you the other night I ordered aluminum hatch latches, they've been shipped!
I started the laborious task of covering the flaps/ailerons. Man, what a lot of turns and kinks!! hehe. Using Monokote too for the first time in 30+ yrs.
Once that is done, I can move to the nacelles. Pic later today, possibly! Doug B

Well, progress has been slower than expected, but I did manage to get the flaps/ ailerons covered and installed along with most of the rear framing for the nacelles. Here's some pics. Doug B

Very nice Doug!

I keep looking enviously at that undercarriage retract system!
Wish I could have done something like that for my Stirling...

Hi eye4wings: When I started looking at building the retracts, I found a couple of previous builders had actually made theirs at home with hacksaws and files!! Since I now know that even with my access to bigger equipment and a lathe, it still took 23 hours per pair, I can only imagine the time it would take to carve out a set with rudimentary tools. But it was done.
Now all that remains is to see if they are strong and reliable enough to do the job. I believe they are. Time will tell all.
I am now starting to think about the cowl/motor mounts, we made the cowl a lot shorter to get away from the wing joints/ leading edge. The joys of mods!!
We all just recieved our care packages from Traplet with the 5 pc set including canopy etc. Did I say shipping cost from there suck!! It was more than the parts! Oh well, got em now, we're good. Doug B

Seems to me shipping costs from anywhere over water suck - that's often the thing that stops me ordering stuff... come to the checkout and whoa - the price just doubled! At that point I sit and think 'Do I really need this, or can I get around it another way?'
It's a good spur to invention, but sometimes I get lazy...

23 hours sounds really fast to me Doug! I never time my work stages (disorganised as ever!) and to be honest I don't really want to know... but it FELT like a lot longer than that for the Stirling!

Hi eye4wings; the shipping from UK, Europe can be especially hard to swallow! I understand it can be worse going your way.
I usually don't keep track of time either, more of a curiousity thing this time around. Its all good, the consortium is working well, and we have time to complete these 3 Mossy's.
Got our first real snow last night, it looks cold!!! more indoor time, more building time. Doug B

I was going to say 'But winter is the best building time of the year' - then I thought 'yes, but only if your workshop is part of the house' - which mine isn't and I remembered the effort of shovelling snow so as to be able to get down to the end of the garden to do a bit more building.
If there's a fall of snow I'm often reduced to doing some drawing - perhaps on the next model (or one I may never get around to building) - which is dangerous because I can easily get drawn away by enthusiasm and the current build can get sidelined!

Ah well, as 'the preacher' says 'There's a time for everything under Heaven'!

I guess much depends on our motivation - do we build to fly or the other way around?
I think I prefer building these days - at least I do a LOT more of it!

You guys are evidently enjoying the building as well (if not more) as we are enjoying watching you, so 'more power to your elbows!'
