For the airliner lovers out there . . .

Perhaps this has been posted here before...
but I found an old link to Aviation Models - inspiration indeed.

Imagine an EDF-powered version of some of those large models !
My wife would divorce me if I made something like those that filled the dining room.
What about a twin microfan-powered airliner ? ( My dining room is only small . . . )
I quite fancy an MD80-something.

Oh NO - More ideas . . .

I've been drawing detailed plans for my Airbus 340 project...

I'm using the Aviation Models website - and Airliners.net, of course - as inspiration for a simple, yet striking colour scheme that I could achieve by covering the balsa structure with SoLite film and solartrim.

Using SoLite means I'll save ounces over any other plastic covering, but rather limits my choice of colours . . . so, at the minute I am torn between Emirates Airlines , Air France and South African Airways.

The gold Emirates logo would be a challenge . . .
Plenty of time yet to decide, though.

Hi Kevin, I am building a Boeing 737 and decided to go the Emirates logo way, as you say quite a challenge but I used Cal-Graphix in the USA to make them for me. They have done a splendid job both with the Arabic and also the gold colur that is unique to Emirates.

WOW !

That looks amazing, Dennis.
I have to admit I do like the blend of colours of the Emirates aircraft.

A 737-500 to a length of 30.78" ?
What will power that model ?

A shame that there are no easy-to-use downloadable Airbus drawings like those available at the Boeing website.
Perhaps I should have chosen a 747-400 ?

Hi Kevin, the power plants will be two Astro/WeMoTec EDF units, still sorting the re-tracts big problem on small civil jets as is the wing area which needs to increased or you need to consider slotted flaps. The B737 started life as an Electric Airliners kit, but I was concerned about the wing loading and designed a new wing with a larger area without destroying the scale profile of the B737 or should I say Boeing wing. A lot of the ideas I am using come from the master Chris Goulds plans especially his Comet 4, this one is too old to go into Emirates colours but it would look grand all the same. My goal for this year is to finish the B737 and the Emirates B777/200 that I am working on, span 56" at the moment I am planning to use the same motors and fans as the B737 but I suspect I may have to go MiniFans, I still have some number crunching here.

Dennis,

I have seen Hawker's drawings.
I downloaded the A340 drawing - at 800x489
I have a few books - with various drawings - and also the large jpeg files of Airbus 'blueprints' that are available after joining the 'a340' yahoo group.

Those are of the -500 and -600 series.
The side/front elevation of the -500 series is 2868x2312. The plan view is 2464x2268
The files for -600 series are a little bigger.

A question, Dennis,

Are the decals by Cal-Graphix for your model printed so they conform to the shape of it - or are they flat ? will they need slicing at the extremes to fit smoothly ?
I wonder because of the shpaes of the tail colours - and the cabin windows/doors . . .

Hi Kevin,

The decals conform to shape this was a big problem for the tail logo as you can imagine.
