Thanks for posting!

I read the book when it came out but this is the first time I've seen more than still pictures.

The landing at Santorini is nothing like I imagined.

In the very first shot, you can see the wing warp... a servo pulled on the bracing wires and twisted the wing... but really moved the whole plane!

The mad dash to the plane after the nose over landing was because this was long before ESC's existed. There was just a manual switch on the motor, so we had to get to the plane to turn it off before the stalled motor cooked itself!

Ahh.. the bad old days! ;-)

I would not want to put the time and effort into a built up model. But a 6 ft laser cut Depron one might actually get finished.

Started work on the 72 inch version. At first I was going to make it a simple 2x version of the original, but then the details started getting to me.

This one will have a full fuse, printed pilot/engine, v-mounts, and removable wings. Also mixed up a batch of paint to match foamular pink as best I could :P

Airframe is done minus covering and it's at about 15g, should be able to come in under an ounce.

thats awesome! do you think the wings will be too flexible? or is that carbon going to be enough?

starting into indoor freeflight it really makes you look at EVERY component and how much you can remove before it cant support itself anymore, then add .002" and it works lol

kidding aside, it looks great so far

Ok, but if you are going that far, the pilot/engine has to have the legs pedaling!

At an ounce, this could be pretty nice!

how was the V-mount constructed? Looks like laser cut G-10 fiberglass maybe? If it was a 2d cut part, how was it folded to shape?

Laser cut .025 G10, with etch marks where the folds go. I put a piece of tape on the back of the part before folding to keep everything together, then hit each corner with a drop of CA.

Got everything covered, the wing mount done, and the tails on. Going to check CG tomorrow morning with the rx brick battery and motor, hopefully I don't have to switch to a lighter boom. It would be an easy way to save a gram or two, but I don;t have any hollow tubes on hand.

Brick and pushrods setup, just need to solder up the motor and it's good to go. Right at 28g with the Vapor battery

Got it in the air. Flies very nicely, although way too big for the office lobby. I ended up adding a second bracing wire, which eliminates the wing flutter I was seeing on the smaller one. Really looking forward to flying this in a big space. Looks slower in the air than the smaller one.
