For a 500 , it feels more like a 450 . I got 2 flights in , 1 to dial in the gyro ,2 to get the cyclic to a controllable level .
I have been waiting for some good weather for 2 weeks to get a real flight in . At this rate it may be next year .

I have been practicing in Phoenix Sim with the Trex 500 Sport model. I got tired of the stock canopy so I imported a canopy scheme in the Canomod USA colors. Pretty cool. Now I gotta have that canopy on the real heli so last Saturday I ordered one from Heli Direct. It arrived today and is installed on the heli. It really looks sharp. I am VERY pleased with how it looks!!! And how quickly it arrived. Good Job Helidirect. Well packed and quick handling of my order!!!

That was the good news, now the bad news:

The darn thing is gonna rub the main gear on the right side.

Now what?

Do I attack it with an Xacto knife to relieve the rub or do I run it and let the gear take care of the rub?

What do you guys think I should do and sending it to you is not an option.

Use a file or the knife to trim it, if you let the gear rub it will wear the gear and eventually strip. If you use the knife then make sure to sand where you cut and round all the edges, if you don't the canopy will crack over time

I had that problem once..the fix was adding a couple small washers to the canopy mount stud ( extending it just a bit ) giving that extra clearance for the edge of canopy. All Canopy's are not created equal, that's for sure.

You may also try making a ball out of news paper and putting it in the end to try and reshape it. I like your idea xion!

After you stuff the canopy heat it gradually with a heat gun or hair dryer.

I like the washer idea under the canopy stud Dejavu. I don't need to move it very much.

I will let you know how that worked when I get home Monday. Heading to my friends place near Wisconsin Dells first thing in the morning. Wisconsin's gun season for Whitetail opens on Saturday. Taking my RR Arms 6.8SPC this year.

Good luck! Here in MO they kept changing the year you needed to be born in before you needed the class until finally I had to take it. Soon dead people will be required lol! My father in-law has 40 acres of woods and a great hidden two story house that I shot my first out of but all the dear there eat acorns and are the size of large dogs.

Thanks mhills51, the deer on my friends property are all corn fed. They don't eat much in the woods at all. They are pretty good size as well. I ended up with 80 pounds of meat from the doe I shot last year.

BTW, I fixed my canopy issue by installing washers under one side of the canopy supports and by slightly elongating the hole on the other side. I think the whole issue was the result of the mounting holes being just at ad off in location. I think that if the holes were left to the end user it would be better in the overall scheme of things.
