Alabama gunman kills bus driver, seizes boy

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (AP) — Police SWAT teams and hostage negotiators were locked in a standoff Wednesday with a gunman authorities say intercepted a school bus, killed the driver, snatched a 6-year-old boy and retreated into a bunker at his home with the kindergartener.

The gunman, identified by neighbors as Jimmy Lee Dykes, a 65-year-old retired truck driver, was known as a menacing figure who once beat a dog to death with a lead pipe, threatened to shoot children for setting foot on his property and patrolled his yard at night with a flashlight and a shotgun.

Sheriff Wally Olsen said the man shot the bus driver when he refused to hand over a 6-year-old child. The gunman then took the kindergartener away.

Dykes was believed to be holed up with the boy in an underground bunker of the sort used to take shelter from a tornado.

Three shot at Phoenix office complex, manhunt for gunman under way

At least three people were shot at an office complex in Phoenix on Wednesday, police there said, and a manhunt for the shooter is under way.

Witnesses said they heard as many as 10 gunshots fired.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson, the building was evacuated and the suspect fled the scene. The shooting—which occurred in the building's lobby—does not appear to be a random act, he noted, though he would not say if the suspect knew the victims...

A SWAT team began canvasing a neighborhood in search of the suspected shooter described by Thompson as an "older" white male, possibly in his 60s.

Actually gun crime has been on the decline. Unless you were referring to the BS Bill post, then yes, more and more everyday

Fewer criminals is the answer, but the liberal left is responsible for these people so obviously they will repudiate any responsibility.

So now it's just "shootings" not sprees.

You missed the 7 killed on Saturday in Chicago in your week 4 thread - I guess it's the wrong kind of shooting, wrong city (since guns are so heavily restrict there), or maybe the victims are just the wrong color.

There won't be any end to these. They are needed to close the deal with the American public. Once legislation is signed, they'll start to wind down. Then, they'll ramp up again when it's time to make the next "common sense" step on gun control.

And this piece of has been in plenty of trouble before but NOTHING WAS DONE. He should have been put away or had his firearms confiscated back when he threatened to shoot the kids. Forget about what he has done in the past
with his threats and violence. Lets make more laws. You people who love to point out how guns are a problem seem to let the facts go when it's clear this person shouldn't have been out to begin with. TYPICAL LIBERALS. Never let a good crisis
