Geared up.

So found a free moment tonight. Got the slot cut & gear mounted. Only thing left to do is control rods. But I can't do them until I get the servo's centered.

And here's the latest brick wall.

I don't know how to fire up elevons on this fancy schmancy pc futaba!
I have the manual pdf and will start reading I guess. I know that there are at least 3 models in this pc's memory and one is a Northstar which I believe is elevons. Just can't remember how to switch models. My FB Vince Pettkee ( I miss you bro) was well known for his and even was on a mag cover with it back in the day.

So now it's time to learn the radio.
Here's a pic of the latest. Still surprised at how little this guy is!

Oh, and the 7x35 fits in the slot between the stabs! (6x3 is on in the pic)

Looks like I won't get to see how fast.
After further reading in the tx manual and going thru my radio, I just realised this is a "heli" radio. 8(

1. the little "sub trimmer" dials in the frt are rudder, idle, hold pitch... not ail, ele, rud.
2. under edit, according to the manual, I need ot have par set at "wing type" (to pick elevon), not "basic" for "mix-mode"
Mine is either "Heli" or "basic".

Now I remember my FB telling me that and that he used it for basic flying only.

poop.

Back to the drawing board.

ps... I could probably go into the custom chnl "master, slave" gig and do some wierd voodoo changes but I need to have just a tad (see huge) more knowledge of how this 747 works.

I'm sure there's gotta be a way, I just don't know how. I might post a thread asking what's up in one of the other forums tailored to this stuff too. I am hoping I will run into someone who specifically know's this radio that can just say... "Oh yeah, you just do this..."

Otherwise I can just throw my mixer on it and use the RET model I have been using on it thus far. I just didn't want to add the extra 1/2 oz.

Looking at the manual I downloaded, it is for a PCM 1024A. Mine is a PCM 1024H.

Bet that is "A" for airplane and "H" for heli.

I’m sure there should be a way without having to resort to a separate mixer... Maybe check in the Heli section ???

Yeah, I'll take a peak. Getting rdy for the morning now then hittin the hey. Gonna try to square up a free moment tomorrow to post somewhere in the heli forums and also in the beginner forum & electric forum.

I'll just have to keep trollin' till I get a bite.

Otherwise, I just may have to start keeping an eye out for when the 9X comes back in stock over at HK. Wifey already has seen how this radio issue of mine has put the brakes on my flying ever since the ol' Conquest pooh pooh'd.
She has already said "just get the radio!"

Don't forget to check the radio forum!

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...t=futaba+t9vhp

I think I'd try plugging the servos into the channels 1 and 2, then look for a heli mix that uses those two channels and see if it works.

OK so I wasn't sure there was a radio forum. Learn something new everyday.

You could add a third servo for a center elevator strip and two for outboard ailerons. Not sure how good it would work but it would be an option.

Thx for the thought, but too much weight. Mixer alone will do if I can't get the radio programmed.
I posted in the radio forum and just waiting for a bite.

JJ, Helis use all kinds of Crazy mixing .... I’m sure you can do it on your radio , just how is the question ... Can’t be that complex.... Did you try just fooling around with the programming (mixing) ? Think about how a heli works , and what you want to do ... try to relate the two ...

Got a bite from the radio forum...

However, there are four programmable mixes and you may try a "dirty" trick to get elevons working. Set dual rates D/R for both aileron and elevator to 50%. Then get programmable mixes 1 and 2 ON (they are by default INH). Now set SW "always on" and trm ON for both mixes. Set mas AIL and slv ELV for mix 1. For mix 2 set mas AIL and slv ELV. Setting properly the % of R/U and L/D for both mixes ,you may get aileron and elevator servos working as elevons.
We'll see how it goes. A bit over my head but it's worth a shot. Otherwise I'll just throw on the mixer.
