multicopters at the olympics

Has anyone heard anything about using multicopters as camera platforms in the Olympics? I just saw a commercial on NBC where they showed a multicopter with a GoPro on it filming a skier going off a jump at the Olympics. I think its a good idea, spreading the hobby, showing how useful it is. But, (this will probably never happen,) what if someone loses control, and jumps into the blades? Just wanted to hear people's thoughts on it.

Watching women's slope style snowboard, and you can see some kind of multicopter filming the first portion of the runs. I Don't get a long enough view to see what it is, but it is definitely there. How cool is that?!

They must also use some kind of FPV setup, because they have to make sure they don't hit the athletes. Also, I was watching Cross-Country Skiing (I think), and I saw what I thought was a multicopter flying down the track with the skiers.

They are all two man setups for sure...

Yeah, there has to be some kind of backup safety. The AMA banned FPV, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have/had to do something so they could fly them around people going off jumps, around tracks etc.

Good point, is the AMA active over there? If this was in the US, I can imagine it would be harder to get permission to fly around people.

That may be true, but I know the Olimpics in general has people flying multicopters for them because the aerial video is streamed onto TV. Next time you watch and they do an aerial view of the snowboarders and skiers going off jumps, it's most likely from a multicopter.

From what I could see, it's the top section of the slopestyle event (rails). The bottom section (jumps) appear to be covered by a wire-cam and that looks to be broadcast connected for replay. I haven't seen footage from the multi, but looks like you can see the pilot and cam operator standing on the hill opposite the broadcast cameras.

That's not an accurate statement.
Most footage/shots are coming from cable driven Arial cams, ground rigs at key points and even people shooting footage perched up in trees.
The spotted uav 's (downhill snowboarding) were not isolated to a single team or country nor individual. One in particular was spotted on almost every athlete at the top of the course and appeared to be controlled by an unknown team of 3 individuals towards the top of hill.
Because of the risk involved in flying uav's in order to obtain Arial footage for whatever reason at the Winter Games permission must have been granted through the commission.
JMHO.

I saw some really amazing footage of the womens snowboarding from the multirotor... definitely a two man operation because the framing was perfect even thought the hex (octo?) was not flying directly towards the snowboarder, but over and past.

Seems risky to ruin someone's shot at an olympic medal due to a motor failure, but the video sure looked great.
