LCD 12 volt color Monitors CHEAP!!!!

I ran across these on an Ebay search. They'd be perfect for a helmet viewer or as a viewer in a case.

I asked the vendor what their original purpose was and was told that these are for built in DVD players in SUVs so I would bet they have plenty of resolution for our purposes.
They either must have hijacked a truck or bought out a dealership or something, haha.

While I was living in Japan, these things were readily available...

I contemplated making my own goggles, using two of these and some optics taken from jewelers glasses...

I thought I'd wind up with extra wide FOV, but goofy looking goggles...

I never got around to making them...the minister of finance bought me some R-Visions....

I stand corrected. The vendor wrote me back and said they are actually displays for retail Kiosks. The original answer was SUV dvd systems but he was wrong. When I get mine I'll let everyone know how it works. I'd say that it would be high enough res to work for something. I'm going to use mine for group viewing in tandem with my video goggles. I'll just split the av output to my goggles and the monitor at the same time. I've done this with my Mustek PVR and it works pretty well.

Sometime ago i realize this strange object:

But it was unusable in FPV guide.

Please note the possibility to adjust the distance between helmet and Personal Video Recorder whithin 2,5 Lcd monitor

Well.....Mine came today and I'm impressed with the size of the screen at least. It looks like there's a lot of electronics under the screen on the circuit board. All the adjustments are on one side on little pots.
Right now I'm going to put a new rear tire on the Hog and then start to hack the wires and see what this little baby will do

I would guess that the resolution is 240X320 and the color and brightness are really good Here's a bad example but here's a photo of what I'm getting anyway. My camera hand is a bit shaky......hahaha
The video is really a LOT better than this photo depicts. I think the flash has something to do with it. But I'd say it's pretty close to most hand held tv's.

Not bad! I like the 4:3 aspect ratio. No wasted screen or distorted picture.

Here's a better photo of the monitor working. I've built a balsa and ply shadow box that's a little over a foot deep and painted it flat black to help with glare. I'll probably attach a handle on it that's threaded so I can also mount it on a tripod.
The little monitor works pretty well and should be a good addition to my FPV equipment. The main thing I'll probably use it for is for people that want to view the flight alongside myself as I'll be wearing my HMD.
It'll also come in handy for AP as I can have someone else view the monitor and tell me when to snap photos

You are so lucky to have such a generous minister of finance. Mine throws a high heel shoe at me when ever she senses my mouth is about to spew anything like ...."I need this or that for my FPV system." Must be her Samurai instinct.
