Decided today that hell or high water - I'd start on PKJ(Twin) ...
Donor machine is my 4400kv 1.1Kw PKJ2 ..... ![]() So first was to cut out the motor mount and infill with pink closed cell foam ... ![]() Then remove paint / rough up the foam for epoxying the beams in ... ![]() ![]() Motors in and beams secured also with wide head self tappers .. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Twin 50A ESC's ... one with red BEC lead pulled ... to a Y lead for Rx, I had to add a length to the battery cables as they were far too short ... ![]() Unfortunately - I now find I have run out of bullets to connect the motors !! AUW without battery : 442 grams CoG with 2200 3S Turnigy or 1600 4S Zippy Compact is at front edge of finger holes ... ie spot on ! The battery is as far fwd as possible. Once I have motors connected ... and weather improves .... the V3 Speed Sensor will tell us what this bay will do ! Motors are 2632 3800KV small heli motors, 4.75 x 4.75 contra rotating props (inward turning), 50A ESC's ........... I have 5x5, 4.5 x 4.5 and 4.1 x 4.1 contra props as well in case ... Nigel |

I know - lovely arent they !
But actually they are better than the alloy mount I used before I changed to the metal L bracket. For someone just doing the normal single motor PKJ ... it's a good stick mount, better than both the stock and alloy. Here - I'm just interested in one thing - getting the machine airborne. Cosmetics are for others. If she works - then I may add some foam fairing or other to make her look a bit better. OH - I salvaged some bullets from other set-ups and had her connected up last night ... you have to hear those motors together ... what a sound ! But boy - in just a few secs the test LiPo - a 1300 3S 25-35C puffed .............. so she needs serious battery ! Still to do Wattmeter tests. To satisfy some others on another topic - the V3 Speed sensor is in my 50mm EDF to clock what my $30 upgrade really does .. Once that's cleared up - the PKJ(T) will get it back. Thinking about the V3 sensor ... I'm seriously thinking to get some more ... now that I have the Edge 540 racer, crazy power EDF's etc ... Nigel Nigel |

I use the same style of plastic mount on my PJ. Got a bunch of them from Millennium RC as they are better quality than GWS versions http://www.millenniumrc.com/MotorMount.html

Your video is showing as private Nigel.
I've been flying my PKJ2 the last 2 weeks. Nice and SLOW plane LOL. Flies sweet though. Really enjoying it. It keeps living to fly again and that's what I was after. Nosed it in full speed yesterday and virtually scratch free. I credit the durability to the 3 carbon strips I placed standing up under the battery area. The nose didn't curl upward this time and spared the canopy too. Highly recommended mod. |
