Now to see how hard it'll be to get parts. Yes, ejector pins work great.

I am pretty well stocked up with parts, but I did notice I used the last flybar I had in my stash.
Well the 400 is back up and flying, and all repairs went well. The main shaft was not bent, and all electronics checked out good. For having the 400 fall that far, and only having minimal damage says something about how these helis are built.
You guys remember if something like this happens, and your helicopter is going down, lower the throttle to 0, and save your electronics.
I love these birds, and wish they would have stuck around longer, but I think one should be able to find parts for a while. They sure are fun to fly!!

Is the true cause the inner shaft breaking at the top, then? Weird it should do it mid flight.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what happened. I had just did a 180, and was going to start back towards me when I saw something come loose. Then the blades hit, and down she came. It was a slight delayed reaction from the time the shaft broke, and the blades hit. I know the rotor head was off, because of the blue paint on the flybar weight from hitting the boom. There is no way that weight would have hit the boom if the rotor head was still attached to the shaft. The flybar weight is what put the big dent in the boom - pretty crazy! Then the rotor head and flybar flew about 20 feet from where the helicopter landed. The shaft broke where the 2 flat spots are on the shaft just below the setscrews. That would be the weakest part of the shaft, and I believe it was the original shaft that came with the extended head.

Time for either the ejector pins or drill rod. I use drill rod on my CX2 and Lama 4 shafts.

Darn weather hasn't let me do any sort of flying this summer! I had the super cub out twice at the air field, both times pretty windy. I have flown the champ twice in the backyard both times fairly windy. I've had the 400's out twice maybe 3 times when it's been pretty calm, but that's it. It's been raining like crazy around here, and when it's not one's mowing the lawn! ha,ha,ha Hopefully the weather will come around soon! YOU GUYS HAVE A GREAT 4TH!!

My quad can take more wind than some heli's, but it's been too windy here too. I've only had the big guy out once so far.

Flying Time - Anyone?

I have been getting some flying time in so I thought I would report in to see if anyone else out here is flying. I just finished up this evening flying my 400D up until it was getting pretty dark to see. I was out of batteries anyway, so it worked out well. Last Saturday morning I took the Cub to the airport, and flew a few flights out there. I sure like having the room to fly, and it's so nice for landing and taking off from a long hard surface. It's a pretty small airport, and not used a whole lot. Then towards evening I flew the Champ from my deck around the backyards until I ran out of batteries. It was then time to bring out the 400D, and I finished off the evening flying it. That was the most flying time I have had in one day, since I can remember.
This thread has sure been quiet for sometime, so how about you guys out there, getting any flying time in?

I hate to admit it, but most of the flying I do is on my brushless quad. When I want to fly a plane, I have to pack it up and go to a field. I much prefer flying in my own yard. I've had the 400 out once so far.

The quads or drones are starting to get a bad name for themselves now since the paparazzi are using them to spy on celebrities. I can see where people may be offended if you have one hovering over your house or head for any amount of time. I have seen on the news locally, that people have reported them from time to time hovering over buildings. I believe if I would fly one around this town that it may get shot out of the air. People see something like that hovering overhead here would definitely use it for target practice.

Seems to be universal - happened in PA as well (but there it was a drone filming people pigeon hunting ...)

They get extremely expensive when you add all of the video gear. That's video for filming versus video to fly the silly thing too!

I need to remove a little boom weight from my brushless 400. The COG is right on the money, but flying against a little current, it wants to climb too much. I had it set pretty well, but over the winter when flying indoors I must have changed it back. Last night I had the Champ out again, man that is a fun little plane to fly!

I had my 400 out Sunday night - nice.
I tried a P-51 after I got used to teh Champ and that didn't work out. I now have a T-28 and still can't get used to the ailerons.
