Manta Ray with flapping wing!

Hallo
I have an idea, a manta ray is swimming like a bird.
Now that could be a amazing ornithopter.
I think a wing span with 300 cm could be fly smooth and slowly.

I have been struck by how my Lazy Hawk in slow motion reminds me of the rays I used to watch as a kid growing up in Florida

There I am again.
When I build in 1:1 the body would many voluminously. The take off would be not easy.
The side ruder would be steering by the tail stinger.
Ailerons by Articulated wing with a servo on the wire to the articulation.
I am so excited to the project

Hello
The Manta project has begun. The first parts are already made. The span will be ca.2.50m. I hope 400W are rich with 3S Lipo.

Some stuff from 1893 that makes for interesting reading:

http://invention.psychology.msstate....o_Jan1893.html

Some guy made some very large rubber powered ornis, and discusses using elastic to pre-load the wings downward, and the difference in the amount of power required as as a result.

Fascinating, especially so when you consider that this was 122 years ago!

It's said that there's nothing new under the sun....
