Use the 3/16 X 3/16 for the leading edge. That is the way it is normally. You just may need to knock down one corner so it fits against the birds-mouth of the ribs.

I did practically the same thing; lots of errors throughout. However, I put on my surgeon's mask and took things apart as needed...not fun. In the end, I named it FrankenStick as there was something broken in about every area! But...it all worked out well and you cannot really see the inconsistencies. More importantly, it flies great!

Yeah, they are good flying planes...

FOr some reason, I always end up making at least 1 mistake when I build a plane from a kit.... whether it is a MRC plane or not

Must be something wrong with me...
