Eric,

Thanks for the remark. I'm fairly sure about the lower thrust. I used a 6mm motor I had lying around so I can't provide any details. I am interested, though, in what motor you used exactly? Could you post a direct link? I just purchased some motors off Banggood. 6x12 I think. Although there are also 6x14mm iirc.

I wish to stick to 6mm but I could use a little more thrust.. Any idea of the increased load (thus impact on required battery)?

Cheers

With the new Star Wars Film thought I would join in the action.
Found some 3mm depron, a mini-vapor brick and a 1s 30mm edf and got building.
No plans just played it by eye, 3 hours later and we were ready to try enjoy the result.
Span 380mm, weight 30gm including battery, 19gm thrust from edf.

Micro X Wing (2 min 39 sec)

Sorry about the delay the link for the 6mm motors I used is

http://micro-motor-warehouse.com/col...cts/cl-0615-14

For the 7mm motors I use in my shrouds is
http://micro-motor-warehouse.com/col...cts/cl-0720-14

With the Inductrix shrouds and 6mm motors we get 13gm thrust with my shrouds and the 7mm motors 20gm and they only weigh a couple of gms more.

As the Arado is now flying well and sorted. I have a full moulded fuselage and will transfer wings etc to that then paint it.
I will put photos and video on this thread in due course.

streff,

Are you printing the shrouds yourself, and if so, are you sharing the file(s) on Thingiverse?

9,5 grams, succes!

This is the second model I tried, succes! Now I used 2mm wall foam (found it by coincidence, dirt cheap). Added some carbon, moved the brick forward.

At 87% size I'm at about 10-15 mm from the leading edge to get a proper CG (too far rear was the cause of the previous failure).

It cruises at 50% and is extremely silent.

7mm motor would be a next step but I don't have shrouds

Too much fun!

Neat build. The P80 is at the top of the list of wanted jets. Always wanted to build a full fuse version, but it would probably end up looking something like the Kyosho version, with intakes large enough to do the job. Also looks like you've proven once again that the cg often needs to be a good bit ahead of 25-30%, especially on small models. I've also found it to be true on small swept wing models.

I'm working on a full fuselage one but I'm not too motivated due to weight issues. Fuselage alone weighs more than the entire model above (2 grams). I'm also thinking that I might lose too much thrust on ducting, even though I had to scale the exhaust. I'm not too afraid about the intakes - I'm willing to make a cheater hole. I do however remember that jet, not too pretty.
First I'll enjoy this one a bit more. Maybe another rebuild, doesn't take much to build these luckily

I have a friend who prints them for me and as I am thinking of supplying complete units to UK and European modellers am loath to sharing the files.
If anyone in the UK or Europe require shrouds or complete units please pm me.

Finally got the time to demolish my 2nd inductrix, and threw together this Vulcan. It's scaled down from the Model Aviation 30" Vulcan by 36%. 11"wingspan, and 19 grams with a mini vapor brick, 2 stock inductrix fans and motors and a 150mah lipo. Glide tests look good, and it has enough power to slide across the floor. We'll see how she flies this afternoon. I'll get a video for you guys.

Well, the maiden of the Vulcan went very well, has enough power, and flies great! While I think using just one inductrix fan might be a little difficult with the weight, 2 fans can easily fly a 20 gram aircraft.
