Switching Polarity of motor for 7009?

Hi all,

I'm really new to RC toys and I recently bought a new propeller for the 7009. Little did I know, the propeller needs to spin the opposite direction of the motor to actually move forward.

I thought reversing the wires of the wires would switch the polarity of the motor to reverse the direction. It worked, but now my motor is over heating quite a bit.

Did I reverse the wrong wires (see image attached), if not is there something I can do about the over heating?

Thanks!

The plastic coupler that attaches the motor to the shaft is also a fan to cool the motor. If its spinning backwards you're sucking air away from the motor.

I thought about that, does it really make that big of a difference?
Hmm...I may try to find a way to switch it around and see.

Benny it really needs that fan to keep it cool. I was reading thru this thread and I have the same boat so I know where u r coming from haha.

My question is would it be possible to upgrade this boat to brushless?

Check the thread for the FT007, it's a pretty similar boat and I believe someone went brushless in it.

Biggest problem I've read with brushless setups is you loose self-righting abilities and I know my boat flips ALOT.

I'm closing this thread as there are much better options out now than the Double Horse for the same amount of money.

OK I've reopened it per a member's request so you all can still discuss it.

Thanks Massive,

Anyone know anything about maintenance on these? I got the prop shaft out and lubed it and used some motor cleaner on the motor. Put it all back together and put it in the water and it feels like it's a lot slower than before. Also, I'm having a lot of trouble keeping the boat balanced properly. Keeps going nose down and it take a lot of effort to get it going again. I got the boat on the classifieds and it's got a FT009 controller that was covered in...plastidip or spray-on electric tape, or something black and thick and heavy. Then I wrapped that in a balloon. I think it's too heavy up on the nose. On a budget of ~$0 can anyone think of anything that might help me out? We're moving and I don't know if I'll still have a pond so I'm not buying a new boat right now. Would just like to get this working for the rest of the summer.

my 7009

since one year i build step by step my 7009. what i have done : reduce prop. diameter to 25mm, build in brushless motor 4100 KV outrunner with brass coupler, balanced the prop. shaft, build in turn fins, build in 20A esc brushless and HK 2.4 ghz control, removed closing mechanism, build in magnet to close the boat and build my own servo rod with bellow. that is all at the moment. today i plan to drive again i hope the steering increased with the help of the turn fins.

------------------How are you going to grease the shaft with the rudder directly behind the prop?----------The drive solid shaft needs grease. Shaft that is attached to prop.

soory for my poor english

i dont know what you mean . Grease (i use Quicksiver PTFE Grease) on the rudder shaft ?
i fill in some grease in the bellows from the inside of the boad until it is full then the steering
rod runs into grease and no wate comes in from the ouitsude of the bellows. i also remove the
screw in the rudder blade an use some spray oil in the screw hole then i put the screw back in
there hole. I hope i answered your question.

grease

i remove the prop, then i remove the 2 screws from the coupler an pull out the shaft backward because my shaft is balanced with a lathe i can pull it in these direction with the original is that not possible. Then i use a syringe (with a cannula) filled with grease. I fill some grease into the sterntube. Then i assemble all parts.
