HP F16 or GP L-39

Hey all you EDF pros....
I was just wondering what you all thought about the comparisons between the HP F16 and the Great Planes L39 Albatross. I have been reading the threads separately but wonder how they stack up to one another. I have the HP F16 and run it stock on 3S. I am extremely impressed with it for my first EDF. How does the L39 stack up against it?

Thanks,
Mark

to be honest i wish i would have bought the F16 but got the L39 instead im thinking about getting rid of it if i dont decide to mod it, i hear they fly really well with 4cell even on the stock motor but if you want real performance put a LSJS motor in with 4cell and 100mph bird. wanna trade lol

I started flying edf and I bought both. f-16 is stock while l-39 is making 240 watts with a little faster motor, but it's still slower the then f-16. I like my l-39 b/c it's a lot easier to maneuver in a small area. My f-16 seems to need more room. I more comfortable doing acrobatics with the l-39. Seems odd with the smaller wings, but my l-39 can fly slower then the f-16. But the f-16 is faster overall and very stable. It's easier to see b/c it's bigger. The l-39 without the motor and fan is $75 while f-16 is over $100. If there is a cheaper way to buy a f-16 airframe, I'd love to know.

That's good if you can fly edf in a school yard near homes and no one complains about the fan noise. Where is that

I haven't flown the HP ef-16 but i think that will be my next plane. My L-39 is rock solid in the air and has good power. The F-16 is faster, but the l-39 glides better and has a lighter wing loading.I love my L-39 and hope to have an ef-16 soon!

This all depends on what you like the looks of better, and how far you want to go with mods. The hp-f16 (Ihave two of them ) is proven to hit speeds of 160+mph with extensive mods, ie:bigger fan, bigger motor (1200-1400 watt range), fiberglassing the entire jet and adding structural supports such as carbon fiber and other materials.
The L-39 I have is modded with a lsjs motor, a haoye 7 bladed fan and it uses 4s 2200mah 25 c packs. Its fast for foam. Around 100-115 mph. If you get the l-39 then you have to get the scale keith sparks canopy kit. Its worth every penny!!
It also amounts to how much you want to spend. My first f-16 had a lsjs with an alpha 5 bladed fan and 4s, it was a solid 110-115 mph jet with those mods. My second one is modded more such as a het 70mm fan with a het 2w-20 motor, structural mods bigger esc and lipo. Its is around 120-130mph. They all fly good even with lots of mods and a ton of extra weight. Even my l-39 flies like a pussycat.

Thanks guys. Your comments were helpful. I just love the F-16 even in its stock form. I have not gone down the road of modifying it yet. I feel that if the F-16 is that much faster I would probably just upgrade the L-39 right away because I am accustomed to the great stock speed of the F-16.

Lavochkin,
It sounds like your L-39 setup would be perfect for me. I will look into that setup when i get mine. I wouldn't need to go any faster than 115 mph. That would be perfect for where I fly at. The sparks canopy kit is awesome! It adds a whole lot to the look of the jet overall. I really like the way my F16 performs and think that an L-39 would be a pretty nice addition to my fleet. I am quickly getting addicted to speed so I'm sure they'll both need some mods in the future. I already did the reinforcements to the F-16 so it would handle upgrades in the future.
